So the Isles with that Snowman did not want JFK - Bonerfide69
It's a shame what has happed to the Islanders really - four cups in a row in the early eighties. Now a series of A-Hole owners, an ill fated move to Brooklyn, among the worst attendance in hockey, and the cherry on top is they have slim chances of re-signing JT. To add insult to injury they are managed by Garth Snow. And not sure why
Snow does not like JOHN FITZGERALD KENNEDY?
Maybe you should your moniker from Boner to Bonehead. |

I get your point, and sarcasm aside, the Leafs have done a reasonable job managing the various aspects of the team since Shanahan emerged from his year of observaton/silence. Payrol - under much better control took out the trash to a large extent. Got very lucky winning the lottery and got a player that is at the very least exceptional. With the offensive depth, and a decent goalie, it is hard to imagine that this team will not be a contender soon, especially if a couple of d-men are added. As far as the draft goes, Liljegren is a player they should be very happy about, he was expected to go much higher - I thought they would have to move up to get him but he fell in their lap, because Yzerman decided to take Foote. I am sure Yzerman would have taken Brannstrom, but LV beat him to that pick. Bottom line is team is being run professionally now, not like a ma and pa shop team evident in the days of Ballard and Stavros. There is a cap manager, analytics are followed and a top coach was hired. Good times are coming. Habs fans and Sens fans will be very sad for a long time. - winsix
Ah let Debby downer enjoy the rant!(and theirs absolute truth to it)but im sure we can let the fan base get excited about some young kids who may or may not make it?everone a franking expert! christ one franking truth is, were a frank of alot better since Shanahan took over!A franking toronto boy who seen enough and strip what he could down and hire some people who now what the frank their (hopefully! )doing! ... |

Just to add a little perspective to how much of a crapshoot the draft is:
For poops and giggles, I looked at the 2007 draft.

Dubas is such a genius, it's hard to keep track of all the great draft steals we have.
I can't believe we got Stephen Desrocher with the 155th pick! I had him ranked somewhere between 125-128! - Atomic Wedgie
What's Hunters's role in all this? You think it's Dubas and not Hunter doing the picking? (frank), it's all been a lie. |

Don't get me wrong, I'm tickled pink by the new Leafs direction.
I've said this until I'm blue in the face (yeah, you saw what I did there): since Ballard died, the problem wasn't that the Leafs didn't want to win.
The problem was they wanted to win too much....and too soon.
We are finally seeing a proper rebuilding process. - Atomic Wedgie

I think it was a combination of things, the suits finally realized that as profitable as the Leafs are in mediocrity, better returns and sales can be had with success. Hence the paradigm shift in philosophy. I agree with you and the way the team has been rebuilt, no need for big name free agents. When they are ready to compete for the cup, a deadline deal or two might be enough.

no 6th round pick for holland
Sarah McLellan ✔ @azc_mclellan
Hearing #Coyotes will not extend qualifying offer to center Peter Holland. Players who don't receive QOs become unrestricted free agents. |

I don't understand his tirade on Dubas, whether or not Dubas has any say in the matter.

Pretty sure he wants NYRangers and hard to say if he is a true top guy. Good thing is you give up nothing in assets, bad is if you give him $7 mil times 7 years which is probably the neighbourhood of what he wants, what do you pay Matthews? Nylander? Marner? when its time.
