I think Daley is less of a liability on the ice. Franson does some solid things offensively, but terrible at defending.

I think you overstate how good Daley is and how bad Franson is. But that's just my opinion.

Maatta was pretty important in the playoffs and arguably the Pens best d-man outside of Schultz.

I think if he stays healthy into this season people will be pleased with him again.

It does seem pretty insane to trade an up and coming young dman with 2 cups for an overpriced 3C in Duchene. If the front office plays it right we could have almost 5 million in cap space when its all said and done. Something like this is very possible https://www.capfriendly.c...m/armchair-gm/team/380023. Maatta still has not even hit his most productive years in the NHL. With a little muscle added to his frame he could be an elite level defender and with a little accuracy added to his shot he could be an elite level shooter. Thats hard to give up on yet.

I would think the exact opposite on both.

I think Cole is worth more than a 2nd round pick to the Pens. Way more. Cole is a versatile veteran and a playoff performer (not to mention he is one of the few Pens defensemen who isn't injured all the time). He is only making $2 mil. You won't find anyone as good as Cole for $2 mil. 2nd round picks aren't worth much at all.

Cole only appeared valuable because that's all the team had there are much better and cheaper values at 3C than Cole. I'm not against Cole I just think we can make our d more dynamic by giving his slot to Pouliot and taking the monkey off his back.

Maatta is too slow to ever become "elite." The best we can hope for is if he becomes a class below elite, but that's a huge "if." Even if he adds muscle it isn't going to change his passive style of play. Passive can be ok if you have adequate speed and offensive skill, neither of which Maatta possesses.

Whoa, this post is a doozy. I can't imagine two players more different than Cole and Pouliot. One plays above his ability and rises to the occasion, doing whatever is asked of him. Not to mention a savvy veteran and a playoff performer. The other plays below his ability, has had motivation / discipline problems, and always looks like a deer in headlights whenever he is given an opportunity. The mere thought of Pouliot taking over for Cole makes me want to faint in despair.

What kinda haul do you think Sakic is gonna get for Dutchy?

I'd like to load up on dmen this summer like they did last summer. First I would grab Colin Miller and Jon Merrill from LV. That would give us a third RHD with above average talent. Then I would let Cole go.
