Further to @TSNRyanRishaug McDavid mention, hearing deal will be around $13.25M for 8 yrs. Big win for EDM to get that term, as opposed to 5
Good GRIEF!!!!
F*CK THEIR CAP.
Leon is going to get 10-12M AAV as well.
Gonna have to deal RNH. Have to eat Lucic's 6x6, Sekera's big deal, AND now Russell's 4x4.
Gross... just Gross. Have to do it to keep the premiere players but they are not going to be able to add good talent outside of ELCs. - JVince11

If eichel is gonna want ten I'll offer him a 2 year contract at 20 mill. Then give him 11 mill for 8 years after. Get 7 good years off that contract and flip him for prospects his last year. I'm done paying anyone over 30 years old. Let someone else pay him 10 million plus until he's 37. |

Not how that works. Two way deals mean nothing to NHL vets. Anyone not on an ELC or played a certain amount of NHL games are not waiver exempt. So you send him down to the minors, which will never happen to a captain let alone such a respected presence as Brian Gionta. First he needs to slip through waivers. 20 other teams would love to add him to I assume how fair his contract will be. Plus, one would assume that the team would do everything possible to trade the player before sending him to the AHL.
The two way deal simply means you're paid a smaller amount once you enter the AHL. Your cap hit still counts for the NHL team. League minimum (650K) + 375K is what you're relieved with. So if Gio signs for 2Mx1yr, and he magically gets sent down, which will never happen, the Sabres would be on the hook for 975K on the cap.
To sidetrack, this is a situation we can use on a guy like D-Lo. He has a one way deal, but his deal is less than the cap recapture of sending an NHL guy to the AHL. He'd be 0 on the cap and go back to where he essentially belongs. - TheSabresTaco
On the first point, I don't think there's any chance he's captain again if he comes back. I'm fine exposing him to waivers. Personally that's the only way I would want him back. Going into his 39 year, I doubt he can replicate what he did last year, so if prefer to move on. This team needs a shakeup. I would offer him a deal similar to what we have Fedun. I think the Sabres are the only team that would even consider signing Gionta on a one way deal

THe salary cap is inching up and contracts are leaping up.
Their will be another lockout in what 2 years? Wasn't it 2020?
I don't want these 10+M cap hit deals on our roster but if Eichel progresses like he is supposed to... We have to keep him. |

So the Oilers Savior will be elevating the highest cap hit in the league by 2.75 million per year. This is a bad move for everybody.

Does someone offer sheet Draisaitl just to screw Edmonton over? If they're really matching anything someone should throw a 10 x 8 at him just to make their cap situation appalling |

IF Leon even were to sign for 7M which would be a gift IMO.
Def gonna be carving more to the likes of RNH and Sekera I'd bet. |

That's the thing... I don't know if that is AAV or the Cap Hit.... if it is the cap hit then it is AWFUL for this league. If it is just the AAV then the cap hit could still be like 10-11M |

To me, this McDavid contract shows that salaries are artificially low. If teams are willing to pay McDavid 13, then mid tier guys should be making more too. I think the NHLPA must be pissed when they hear he's making more than Kane, Crosby and OV without the cap going up |

To me what it shows is that the power of the players to demand more money is going through the roof and that the owners would want some sort of concessions in the next CBA to compensate.
If Conner is worth 13.25 then it would be hard to argue that Leon is not worth 10. |

You're not putting reality into perspective here. First, there's no way in hell Brian Gionta is sent to the Amerks. Especially after, and if, he signs a one year deal. You gotta take the human and business perspective here. It's not a video game, you don't just bury a guy like that. He scored 35 points and performed very well on the third line. I'd like him back, but I'm not banging the drum. This conversation is based on the idea that he is in fact signed to a one year deal. It will no doubt be team friendly, and it will no doubt be one way (same salary NHL/AHL) and he will no doubt remain with the team or another NHL club for the entire season. I'd bet my house on that. |

That's what I would offer him, but maybe you're right and other teams would value him more highly. He's going to be 39 this year and I don't see him scoring 35 points again. If he thinks he can and another team thinks he can, then I would let him walk. New blood and/Or seeing what the kids can do is more important to me than seeing if Gionta can hit 35 points again. As for his respect level and leadership, I would say that he failed. From various reports, the location was a mess and it's a captain's job to either help fix it, or at the very least, keep it out of the media |

He should not. McDavid probably shouldn't get 13.25 either. I'm only implying that at 13.25 for McDavid it drives the entire market up.
It is a lot to pay a couple guys who are bad at face-offs...

Just saw an interesting one on CapFriendly...
BUF gets:
Landeskog
Compher (my kind of trade)
COL gets:
Samson
Bailey (Or perhaps Nylander)
Conditional 2018 1st (if in top 10 it can be pushed to 2019 and be unprotected)
Landy - Eichel - Nylander/Bailey
Kane(resigned 4x5.75) - ROR - Okposo
Zemgus - Compher - Ennis
Fasching - Larsson - Foligno
Risto - Del Zotto (4x4.75)
Beaulieu - McCabe
Antipin - Bogo
(Moulson bought out)
Not gonna lie.... I'd do that trade. I don't think COL would but it doesn't seem horribly off. BUF would have 5.75M in cap space. |
