Just heard this:

"Hawks hoping for a league decision on Hossa before/by July 1st."

Told it has a lot of bearing on what they can do this summer. I've asked for more detail.

Totally agreed. He is very well liked in Edmonton and a team would likely need to overpay to get him.

Just out of curiosity, what is the feeling/general consensus out there about McDavid's new contract?

Do you like it?

Lets just stop the Neal talk. He did Zilch in the PO's this year - do we need another guy that produces during the season and disappears in the PO's - case closed!!!
- glennjpawlak22

James Neal suffered a broken hand during Game 1 of the Western Conference finals against the Anaheim Ducks on May 12. He scored the overtime winner in that game, but had two goals in his next 11 games. In the post-series handshake line Sunday, Neal kept his right hand in his glove as he congratulated the Pittsburgh Penguins. "He had to get it shot up every game just to be able to play," Poile said.

He broke his hand in game 1 of the WCF, yet kept playing through the SC. Still he had 6 goals and 3 assists in 22 games. Career 80 playoff games 25 goals and 19 assists. Not to shabby.

He would not be my first choice for sure. But "disappears in the playoffs"?

What's the holdup? Talk with the medical staff involved, review the medical records, conduct an interview or two....

...sign off on the obvious.

Should've been completed by now, unless "they" want to F' one of the most popular clubs in the league.

Most people I've talked to are fine with it. They see a kid that put up 100 points in his first full season and took home a handful of awards. The team in Edmonton was so bad for so long, they want McDavid (and Draisaitl) under contract as long as possible.

Personally, I don't think anyone is worth that much, but I get it. This is what it takes to keep him there, they will pay it.

OK...I'll bite.

What does the widow of Mike Ilitch have to do with anything LTIR related?

In fact, wasn't it the Redwings bottomless spending on Russians (and others) to create a dynasty one of the main causes of the first lockout?

Or would it have something to do with Pavel Datsyuk perhaps? ...or Franzen?

When one's team wins 3 titles in 6 seasons, there is desire to win even more.
- blackhawk24

That's the difference between having a loser's attitude like the Predators trolls that were "just glad we beat Chicago". Winners constantly strive for greatness, and do not settle for "above average" or 2nd best. BINGO loves to come here and tell us all how screwed the Hawks are, propose lopsided Cap-Dump trades, and then eventually he will get to his ultimate goal...talking about the Hurricanes bc he is 1 of 5 Canes' fans on this website.

Some Oilers twitter guy:

If McDavid signs at 13.25, a predatory offer sheet at 9.8 million would force Oilers to pay 23 million for 2 players, or lose Draisaitl for picks.

At that value, the return is 2 first, a second, and a third. Some teams would give that up for Draisaitl.

- JRoenick97

And if a GM goes through with that offer sheet, they literally will never have a trade partner out of the other 30 GMs ever again. Offer sheets are seen as Satan, you can make a deal with him, but if you go through with it, good luck.

Philly offer sheeted Weber and I think they've made some trades since. It's just part of the scenery now.

Bettman obviously doesn't care about optics (when talking about fixes).

Does anyone recall the last player that was moved via RFA offer - seems more are moved due to threat of an offer

Could you do pick/prospect for Patrick Maroon? $2M cap hit and EDM is going to be cap crunched as hell with McDavid.
- phantasmo

McDavids contract wouldn't kick in until 18-19 and Maroon is a UFA then, so cap hit won't matter. They might move him at the deadline for a playoff run.
