Didn't Vegas already say they aren't trading Nate Schmidt? I'd do that trade in a heart beat AA for Lindberg and Schmidt just not sure Vegas would do it. - BlackHawksMan88
Yeah, they may have. But remember, Gretzky was traded. Anisimov plus a prospect . . .? Dunno. |

Wasn't John Moore being mentioned at the TDL last year? $1.67m, not a bad cap hit. |

He would have to waive. My hunch is he would. Especially after this past Friday. |

So, here's me playing GM:
AA to VGK for Oscar Lindberg and Nate Schmidt.
There's your developable LD depth AND a developable LW/C who can kill penalties and win face-offs.
BOOM. - John Jaeckel
BINGO..... DONE..... now how much "exploration" was needed for that ??
A good 2 way trade. Nicely done JJ.

I would have liked to see the Hawks get James Neal, I know you mentioned yesterday Vegas said they aren't trading him but do you think they could change their mind? |

GM'ing again:
AA to Columbus For Matt Calvert and Lukas Sedlak.
Middle line LW with speed and some skill, lower line PK C, 52% on draws, tough to play against.
BOOM.
And you save a bit on the cap too. |

That said, I could conceivably see him getting $3-4 million a year from someone. That's the thing, he's back on the Hawks (and Hawk fans') radar because he had a rebound year last year. It's not like GMs and fans of 29 other teams don't think similarly. - John Jaeckel
True , I see your point ! Thank you |

I think he has no NMC or NTC until July 1, 2018 and that's when he can list 10 teams to be traded to. Until then he can be traded to any team. At least that's what it says on capfriendly. It doesn't list anything for before 2018. |

"The big point is it may be hard to pursue anything meaningful in free agency without making a trade or two as well. So we can speculate, or rather fixate, on thus rumor or that. But the reality is, the Hawks need to be looking at a lot of scenarios and a lot of players. And my sense is, many even in the Hawk organization are not fully aware of the breadth and scope of the exploration. You can connect the dots there."
JJ - great write-up, as always!!
Does the bolded part of your quote above mean they are discussing trading other current Hawk players making anywhere between $5-10.5M as part of their explorations? |

That's a ok trade but I like the trade to Vegas one better both Schmidt and Lindberg are younger players than Calvert |

I don't always believe what McPhee says. That's not a negative comment about him. I like him.
But, what I mean is, if he says he won't move a player, I don't buy that said player couldn't actually be traded.
Vegas has been wheeling-and-dealing before/since the Expansion Draft.
If the right deal were to come along (AA +pick or prospect), I'm sure guys can be moved out of Vegas--because the Knights really want picks.
Just my opinion. |

No, doubtful. I have heard they would like to offload Seabrook's deal yet this summer, but not sure I buy that, especially after last Friday.. |

Supposedly Torts loves him (from NYR days). But returning to a former teams always raises that question. |

Another GM thing:
AA to NJ for Jacob Josefson and John Moore.
(Hawks have kicked tires on both players previously, Josefson is highly versatile, W or C, good on draws, can play in all situations)
And you save on the cap. |

Don't think the Hawks will trade Seabrook too much leadership they would be losing, what about trading AA to Montreal for picks and then taking those picks and trading them to Vegas for Nate Schmidt. |

BTW, all these trade ideas are purely speculative and from the hip.
Point is, they may shed some light on the type of thing the Hawks may be trying to do. That's all. |
