Moore sure can wheel, he's adapted the physical aspect into his game as well.

You are speaking of the total contract value, in terms of yearly salary, the highest paid player in the league last year was Anze Kopitar at $14m.
- TheTrob

Then I wish people would say "highest paid player for this season" and not simply highest paid. Like I said, it's a pet peeve.

With the talk of McJesus pending $13.0M deal I thought it would be a fun exercise to see where our heads were at on the day of the 10.8 twin cap killers.

Here is JJ's blog and 1100+ comments. This is worth a read. JJ's comments on the contracts and more importantly the talent pool seem to be spot on.

Bowman now needs to hope, if not pray, that from among Teravainen, Mark McNeill, Philip Danault, Joakim Nordstrom, Ryan Hartman, Stephen Johns, Jeremy Morin, Klas Dahlbeck, Adam Clendening, and Nick Schmaltz at least a few quality NHL players emerge in the next 1-3 years.

Not a bad hit rate at all with the luxury of hindsight.

I like my doom-and-gloom comment on page 5. Hate to tell all the biz-related prognosticators out there, but I told you so.

I thought RFA(?), if so, I have failed as a GM.
- John Jaeckel

haha. All good. He was an RFA, but now a UFA as NJ did not send him a QO.

I will forgive you... you have a few other things on the go.

Especially when you consider that some other those guys were assets that turned into other players - Dahlbeck for Vermette/Cup, Morin for Panik, Clendening for Forsling.

Danault is the only one on that list of guys who got away that kind of hurts. Teravainen would be nice to have but not the end of the world loss.

IMO the Hawks will regret giving up Panarin. I hope they can replace all the scoring that is now gone.
- Savoy

You mean the same 5 on 5 scoring they'll get from Saad...AND someone that plays 200ft, plays the PK and goes to the traffic areas without the puck?

Then they have to sign Draisaitl.
- JRoenick97

Moving Eberle's cap hit of 6 mil per (IIRC) for Strome was probably part of their long term cap management. ....... I just thought that tweet put McDavid's soon to be 13 mil per cap hit into context. In context it's about the same percentage hit as Crosby's first contact out of his ELC.

The double-contracts was bad from day one. I think most of us knew it.

Kind of weird that Toews and Kane were/are marketed as this package deal by the Hawks. Whatever one guy gets, the other guys has to get, too? The Hawks fans eat it up, too, and assume that they're identical players and these "untouchable" pieces. Always felt like some NBA, " I want to play with my friends" stuff in my opinion.

To me, Kane has emerged as the more valuable piece of the two in terms of offensive ability, while Toews has regressed on the ice, but is still the leader of the team.

Kane probably comes closer to deserving the $10.5--which is still a ridiculous amount of money, you know?

Indeed, but just reading the names of Hawk players of the "past" it showed many were gonna be solid players. And yes, players are assets to be used to make the whole greater whether with the Hawks or used to get better or different assets....... By the way I haven't given up on Johns at all. Watching that shiny hockey system played at Dallas the last few years I wouldn't judge any young Dman in that circumstance. Lets see what happens under Hitch for the big, young, rugged kid who can skate a bit. ..... I like how Paryako developed under hitch.

Minor pet peeve of mine, but I wish people would say 'highest cap hit' instead of highest paid. Weber is still the highest paid player in the league with Crosby being second, $20m+ more than Toews/Kane, but they just get to have the full amount of their contracts divided out over more years. Even at $13.25m over 8 years, McDavid would make slightly more money than Crosby but still be under Weber by $4m.
- L_B_R

Crosby and Webber were signed before the cap plateaued - $13.5 in a stagnant revenue situation - with certainly several players coming due for new deals at some point (especially if the team does well)....

Me too. It was a purely economics-based statement. Never bought this YoY cap increase slant and wish still to this day they would quit selling it. Even now (here in the US specifically), after the market upturn the last 7+ months, we are still stuck in the woods regarding real [actual] economic growth. Growth which would increase HRR commensurate with expectations of some, league wide.

Oh, I know.

I've just always been a believer that no one is unmovable or untouchable. As such, if you build this idea that a player(s) are, the fans buy in and then you sort of corner yourself, if that makes any sense.

You should never be afraid to make a move because of the fan backlash, but I think the Hawks have certainly put this idea in the fanbase that Toews and Kane will always be Hawks.

I mean, if a really nice deal came along that would benefit the Hawks and you had to move, say, Toews, wouldn't you be down to do it?

I def woul, but I can't imagine the fan backlash. Haha. Maybe not as crazy as Gretz being moved, but still...

Watched Moore develop with the Chicago Steel followed by Jacob Slavin the following year. ...... In fact one game Q was sitting two rows below where I stood at Steel game with his wife and daughter and I asked him, hey Q you keeping an eye on #11 (Moore). He responded no, he was watching Chelios' kid. Moore went 1st round a couple months later to CLB.

The name that sticks out for me on that list is McNeil. 1st round pick for the Hawks - 18th overall (iirc) - and never panned out - not even in a bottom-six role. I had visions of that kid being the 2C behind Toews and really anchoring the top-six center position for the Hawks. It's reminiscent of Beach - but without his obvious attitude issues - which made it all the more strange as to why it never clicked for McNeil.

BTW, all these trade ideas are purely speculative and from the hip.

Point is, they may shed some light on the type of thing the Hawks may be trying to do. That's all.

- John Jaeckel

Right on, JJ. Not so much the names but the direction they are looking to go. The plan. We saw that with Saad (cap management/size/speed/) and Murphy coming in for Hammer. This is pretty much the first time moves are made concerning core players as they relate to the cap. Looking at cap consequences 2-3-4 years out........

Its early .

Hossa LTIR on the last day of camp , really means currently the Blackhawks at 2m under. Plus AA and Kruger sell off adds 7.5 m of spending power. SO If I am right , AA and Kruger sold off , Hossa LTIR = 9.5 m - acquired players salaries for free agency day 1.
