So McDavid is getting about 13 million and now I see Eichel could be looking for 10 million.
Damn.
I know these guys are good but with the NHL having a hard cap don't you have to look and see what helps the team too?
I hate Crosby but he had sense to make sure the Pens could put a team around him. He easily could have been a 10-13 million guy. |

Thanks but way too much work for something I really don't care about, besides when the Flyers are good next season ol' joe up there will be crowing about how he knew it would be so and the fresh faces on the roster were just what this club needed lol

There are lots of areas where the team can improve 5 on 5 scoring starting with the captain. The issue is instead of those young players being added to the lineup to add to the scoring, now they need to make up for the loss of Schenn. It's a step back offensively for sure. - MJL
You keep saying this as if they just lost an in-his-prime John LeClair or something.

Crosby's first deal was worth 17.3% of the cap at the time, would be $12.975m AAV under a $75m cap.
His second deal was worth $104m, and was a front loaded, cap circumventing contract that he signed after playing only 63 out of 164 games in the previous two seasons. |

Schenn was just traded. He's 25 years old. He is a kid. What's the purpose of trading him and bringing in players who you hope can be his equal 4-5 years from now? Not to mention taking a ridiculously overpaid Lehtera back.
Does Hextall think he has this job for a decade +? I mean this is year 4 now they were a playoff bubble team when he took over, and they are in the same boat now. What is the short term plan for the goaltending? Have two journeyman and punt the next two seasons? Banking on one of these goalie prospects being a legit franchise guy is fools gold.
If this was a full tear down rebuild what Hextall is doing, why are Giroux and Voracek still on the team? Let me guess, no one would touch their contracts with a 10 foot pole. - PLindbergh31
It's funny you female dog about taking lehtera back like Hextall pursued a Schenn for Lehtera trade. Youre foolish. |

Bill Meltzer: Young Forwards Are Key to Replacing Schenn Next Season - bmeltzer
I really have no expectations for Lindblom. Believing he is a player that can simply step in and replace Schenn's production is like believing Michael Raffl was gonna simply offer as much as Simon Gagne when we didn't resign him. Even Gagne in decline I felt offered more at that time. Of course Raffl did somewhat grow into his own.
Nolan Patrick and Travis Konecny are two very different stories. I do believe they can replace Schenn's production but I do feel the PP will have to adjust and I for one wish we kept Schenn for another season because I wanted to remain offensively top heavy. |

Raffl had 22 points in 13-14. Gagne had zero.
Banking on one of these goalie prospects being a legit franchise guy is fools gold.
Hilarious hypocrisy coming from the guy who has his tongue stuck all the way up Matt Murray's bumhole.
No one ever said Hextall was doing a tear down, and yet he has amassed the best prospect pool in the the league while keeping his two leading scorers, Giroux and Voracek. |

Not knowing who your starting goalie is on June 28 is a fool proof plan. I'm not sure why everyone doesn't adopt this strategy. - PLindbergh31
Rather then enjoy your unbridled enthusiasm for the Flyers like we all do ill ask the following...
1. Since you take part in the team meetings how have they been so oblivious on goaltending?
2. What realistic move would you have done differently? |

As the cap continues to grow each year (for the most part) so will big $/term contracts to the skilled youngsters. A decade from now we could see $20 million AAV players.

Since the game isnt just played at 5 v 5 I'm not gonna just dismiss what Schenn added but I don't see how anyone views it as an overly huge loss.
If G and Jake have closee to normal years snd if Coots breaks the 40 point or 20 goal mark plus whatever the young players bring I think we will be okay.

Pellelindberg31 has it right, nothing good will happen with trading of Schenn, a player approaching his prime years and the the top goal scorer on his team. As for the rest of you morons who are drinking the Kool Aid Hextall is giving away for free I feel sorry for you. For every good move Hextall makes three bonehead mistakes! By the way just talked to my buddy Steve and he is signing in Winnipeg on Saturday. He has given me inside info on the gong show going on in Philly and 10 million a year would not bring him back. - joegreif17

Yes they would but I think they need to keep them apart and on separate pairings with the likely makeup of the Flyers defense.
Did you imagine correctly?

Is this season not the future? Anyway...that is about what I expected. They'll be fine this year. In order the replace the production of Schenn, The Flyers, who scored 2.59 GF/G, will need to score 2.59 GF/G or more this upcoming season. - YuenglingJagr
You're not seeing the big picture and are comparing what they might score to what they scored last season rather than thinking about what they might score with the addition of more skill, improved play from players who struggled and what Schenn might have given them. |
