Everyone claims Shattenkirk is using the Sabres to drive up his price, what if Botterill is actually using Shattenkirk to make sure teams in our conference overpay?
- sbroads24

If he is, I am fine with that. Screw other teams cap.

We have a good cap guru in Botterill . I'm not worried .

Good to have some insight on what to do with cap management. GMTM.. not so much.

First of all Buffalo 78 points. New Jersey 70. So that ends the they were the better team argument.

Second of all "bud" I lived in NYC too. For a long time actually. Most New Yorkers or hate New Jersey. Obviously being close to the city would be a draw but for Shattenkirk if he can't play for his favorite team growing up you think if given the choice he'd go play for one of their most hated rivals. Second of all name a good center on New Jersey? Please do. I'll wait...
They have a bunch of talented wingers a few medium good defenders and an above average goalie to go with that number 1 pick who isn't as good as Eichel. They're not at the level of promise we are right now so I can't even fathom where you'd get that idea.

- bluengold12

I doubt shat will go to the devil's or buffalo, but many players have said that they like no since it's close to the city but don't have that overbearing media all over them so they get more privacy and that the suburbs are great. Many live in Hoboken which is a nice area with great views of the city.

Sure the devil's don't have an eichel but many teams don't, it's not like the devil's don't have good prospects in the system like hischier, McLeod and zacha up front, the devils do need help defensively

Players may also take into account history of winning of a franchise

It's all in good fun. sabres are in good shape, good on them for letting Blysma go. Probably gonna see a big difference by the all star break. Do me a solid Buffalo? If anyone is at the downer anytime soon and Passion is working, tell her I miss her and she's never far from my thoughts.

I respect your reply but have a few issues with it. While some players may say that they enjoy living outside the pressure of NYC - Someone who grew up in the NY area generally wants to play for their hometown team. So if he can't go there I can't see him choosing to be in NYC area yet play for their hated rival. Also Eichel makes a huge difference. When you can play with a guy that good who isn't even 21 yet that's a huge selling point. McLeod or Zacha will never be that. We also have O'Reilly and Reinhart for quality centers. You guys have some nice young defenders but if we're both offering let's say 6.5 for 7 years I think he'd go with Buffalo.

You guys may have the history of winning but I don't think you'd argue your arena and team facilities are towards the bottom in terms of quality and that also reflects on the ownership which players care about deeply. Also not that he cares but I know fan support has taken a dive lately in terms of game atmosphere and crowd turn out so it's not as if Jersey has the glamour factor to it. If you get him kudos to you but for once I think Buffalo is better looking option from an NHL players point of view.

Really?
That is surprising
Idk if he'd wanna come here, but I wouldn't hate the idea
Would definitely like him to show Jack, Sam, Kane, etc about how to dedicate themselves to the gym

If he's not a Vet that these kids will listen to,
then there just isn't one out there

Kane-Eichel-Jagr

and move Sam to 3C?

9 times out of 10 if the UFA is in there 20s they are concerned about two things, how much and how long. Considerations around winning come later in life. Securing money is by far their first priority.

While the facilities are not brand spanking new they are still very good, like almost all pro sports teams are. The relatively new owners are putting more money into the team and surrounding area, the area is also (slowly) getting better. Shero has a history of winning as a gm, be it luck or good timing and moves, botts may be a good gm but that is yet to be seen at this level, which could be another talking point.

While he is a rangers fan, I believe I saw that his wife has ties to NYC so if it's more based on family the NYC area is going to be a factor, a short train ride into the city is much easier than hours drive or a flight.

At the end I think he signs with the rangers, unless they low-ball him, either that or he goes to a team that is already competing for the cup if a team can make space

If the 7 x 7 number is true, I hope it's any team but the Sabres. That's stupid money

Every year we get stupid contracts, they will only get worse and worse, and being a weak ufa class he will get paid handsomely

Before you know it contracts will start to look like the NBA mega contracts

Not unless the cap goes up significantly or the players bargain for a higher cap for salaries. No player's salary can exceed 20% of the max cap for any given year. That means if the cap goes down and the player was already at 20% that team is no longer cap compliant and is subject to penalties.

I like goals. We didn't have enough goals last year. I like skilled players in my top six. We only have 1 right now on the left side. 2.5-3 mill AVG for 2 years sounds pretty good to me.
- bluengold12

Vanek had what, 3 more goals than Moulson last year?
Big whoop
He's slow, he's not getting better

And I thought we wanted to get faster?
No thanks
At this point, he's a 3rd line PP specialist
We already have too many 3rd liners
And our PP is great

Hard pass

6th in the league in 5-on-5 points per 60, 48 points in 68 games. 2nd line LW? Tell me where to sign
- jcragcrumple

He was that good 5v5?
Alright...
maybe my hate on him is too strong

Minny was pretty stacked offensively though
If we could do a 3 scoring line set up,
maybe he could produce decent numbers for us?

Also, if Reinhart is traded...
Vanek could take his spot in front of the net on the PP

Hmmmm....
you've got me considering him at least

Then u should know that Jersey is actually really nice for the most part
And that it, being a suburb of NYC, is a hell of a lot closer than Buffalo...
even if we are in the same state
Lol
That still doesn't mean sh!t
Although u can keep pretending it does

My point was they're not the same and with the exception of the proximity it doesn't mean much it being in Jersey.

True, very true

I could see it not work out so well
