Price is a pretty decent example of that though.
Think about it, 2 seasons ago when he was hurt and they had to go with Condon for most of the season, they missed the playoffs. This year, they led the division at the end of the season.

I don't know why, but I really just don't like the idea of paying him big money. Maybe I'm a bit gun shy after other big contracts we've handed out to FA's not work out so great. Just doesn't sit well with me right now. - HonkFortheGoose

I fully expect the sabres to offer a 42 to 45 mil contract for 7 years to shat
and I fully expect him to use that to get a deal done with the rangers - homiedclown
That's a lot of Shat |

If Murray were still at the helm, I'd pretty much expect it. But I'm not so sure Botterill is going to be a guy that does stuff like that. - HonkFortheGoose
You don't become a "serious suitor" by offering pennies. I think the interest is real and the money is hefty. If he does come to us, I really hope we don't break 6M |

i think you gotta break 6 mil to get in the conversation.. if all he wanted was 6 he would have signed with the rags by now |

price is the closest to that dominating force.. but i still think i keep him at 7 mil - IndianaSabresFan
I'd like to agree with that, but Lundqvist and Bobrovsky make more than that. And at this point, I'd say Price is better even if it is just marginally. So I highly doubt he's going to leave like $2.5M on the table (the difference between the $7M you proposed and Lundqvist's cap #). |

if you want up tempo, and a 1 -2 punch it makes sense to go as high as that
but you need to commit to up tempo
we could see a lot of 5-4 games this season |

They did. And honestly, Condon wasn't bad for them. The team in front just lacked the ability to be successful without the big time goaltender.
Ottawa made it work with that same goaltender though. That tells me the rest of the team was more an issue than the backup goaltender was. |

I think the "tank" broke Ehrhoff to be honest. He really wasn't bad at first. But when it became obvious to him that the team had no intention of being competitive, he quit basically. I can't really say that I blame him though. |

If Liev and JV have not won an award for this series then they should. Great acting all around. Could replace his kids though but the rest of the acting is fantastic! - lulags

I don't disagree at all and I still think Buffalo is attractive to him because he becomes a top guy right out of the gate. But, he will get better offers from the stupid teams like TO and the Ranger dangers |

yeah i get what you are saying.. i just think as a the GM i would have a general rule to keep them 7 mil or less regardless of performance. but price would be stupid to leave that money on the table. |
