I think the "tank" broke Ehrhoff to be honest. He really wasn't bad at first. But when it became obvious to him that the team had no intention of being competitive, he quit basically. I can't really say that I blame him though. - HonkFortheGoose
could be.. but he was useless on any team after he left too.. but he got his money so good for him
I really don't understand why everyone is so down on the possibility of Shat signing here. It would help to make us better now, could make it easier to entice other free-agents (or NMC trade bait), and it would show our current core that we're serious about winning.
If you think about it, 7 million per year will not be that much in 3 years. The cap will continue to climb, and after the next lockout (almost a guarantee), there will probably be another amnesty buy-out window. I'd go for it! I don't think 7 is stupid money.
These types of players are damn near impossible to get, and to trade for one would require giving up far too many assets to outweigh the overpayment financially. If there is a legitimate chance to get him, you have to try. Just my 2 cents.
What if The Sabres know that there is little chance unless they pay a lot. So they offer 6.5 a year driving up Shatts price. - ImThatGuy
He has defensive issues which were exposed on a national level with his exposure when he was moved to Washington. It was hidden in STL because they may have the best defensive Dcore in the league.
Could Housley really help a guy like Shatty be a better 2 way player? You bet your ass he can, but he was exposed as a work in progress in Washington so I don't think he will land a 6.5-7.5 deal anymore
6.5 would land him in Buffalo and Buffalo only - lulags
SPECTOR’S NOTE: If Shattenkirk wants the big bucks, signing with rebuilding teams carrying lots of salary-cap space (Sabres, Devils) are his best bet. If he hopes to land with a playoff contender, however, I believe he’ll have to accept less money.

Work in progress? Guy has been in the league for 7 years. Everyone should know the type of player he is. Should be able to put up 45-60pts a year with about half coming from the power play and is less responsible in his own end. I would have no problem with a $45M contract.
