I think people need to stay grounded a bit. McCabe is nice but still has nights that he definitely looks like he doesn't belong, Risto is good/great but still makes young mistakes, Beaulieau has really nice upside but mistakes got him in trouble in Montreal, Antipin is a huge wildcard nobody knows what he will look like, Scandella is a pretty sound d-man, Bogo and Gorges, well you know the story on those two.

And considering what he may fetch, it looks like the biggest favor gmtm did for us (besides tanking hard) was that risto contract. That looks like gold right now.

If they can move Bogo I would 1000000% be okay with giving Shattenkirk $7 million

Right, but compared to what we're had there's upside. The hope is that with a better defense all around Risto won't play 30 minutes a night and can be better 2nd half of the season. McCabe can be on the 2nd line and play better and Antipin can help the offensive production.

It's all just hope but at least I have that again because I was already starting to feel down about the year and it's not even July

Even if they don't, we're talking about a guy that had Crosby, Malkin, Letang, and Kessel all on their cap, and still figured out a way to win back to back championships. I'm sure Botterill could make Shattenkirk work if he really wants him.

Move gorges for a Big-Mac combo meal, buyout Bogo, place Moulson in LTIR with a "productivity allergy" and everyone is happy.

Because they already re-signed Falk and Fedun as depth D. We don't need to pay $3.9 million for a guy to sit on the bench until the trade deadline and then get a 5th round pick. He only costs $1.3 million to dump him now. Why wouldn't you? It's actually a kindness to the player to do so as well.
