You save $2.6 million off the cap this year and don't pay a guy almost $4 million to be your 7th D in the press box. It's only $1.3 million next season. The cap will probably increase by at least that much adding Vegas. - Pierceme69
This year isn't the issue, it's next season.
Let him ride it out no need to pay him money next year and cost cap space when the Eichel contracts kick in... |

If they aren't thinking Shattenkirk...how about Soupy? - Stripes77
From what I read in a few Chicago blogs, they want to take him behind a barn and put him out of his misery.

Even if we were to retain 50% I don't know if there's any takers for Gorges at 1.95 mil |

But we are not in cap trouble this year, we have a lot of work to do next year. would be a complete waste IMO. |

It would have been a bad move to waste 1.3 million in cap space next year. |

$1.3 million has no effect next season. It would be nice for the player to be bought out as well. It's not all about the team. The guy has no business being on the roster as a #7 or 8 D. |

Didn't he have to be put on waivers first? And that deadline was noon... Or am I wrong? idk. |

$1.3 million is total inconsequential. The cap will go up adding a new team. |

I guess that's possible. I heard guys being named after 1 PM, but that could be names trickling out from the deadline if there is in fact a noon cutoff. |

Well i hope the GMJB has more sense than just throwing away 1.3mil next year, for no reason. |

There is a perfectly good reason. You don't bury a vet like Gorges on your bench all year. Especially if there is heat between him and Eichel. Just buy him out and be done with it. |

What are you talking about? It has a $1.3M effect. And just saying, "well, the cap will go up." doesn't make it so. |

Eichel is priority, who cares about Gorges? Bury him in the A for all i care. But im not wasting 1.3 next year so his feelings aren't hurt. |

Not counting on the cap to go up to just cover a buyout
Eichel's contract, Reinhart's contract, a possible Kane extention
Jack $10 million cap hit
Sam $4.5 million cap hit
Kane $6 million cap hit
that's about $14 million more than they make now total. Leaving the Sabres with $5 million. Not to mention Lehner's deal will probably be a little more than his qualifying offer, then the Johnson contract.
No reason to buyout Gorges at all because if you take off his almost $4 million cap hit an not have him hit the cap next year you get that much more next season.

Totally agree
It's a classy move to let Gorges (or whoever) move on & play somewhere instead of burying him
Since the 1.3mil won't hurt us next year,
a buyout seems like an ok option for both sides
Obviously trading him would work better for us |

That $1.3 million might in fact hurt...
It would be better to eat half of his salary this year and trade him somewhere

The Sabres traded Foligno and I said they would days ago and I have no source. Does that trump mentioning a rumor? |
