How is he overrated ? I think he is underrated if they actually built a team aroundhim and actually cared about him they might be a cup team - GERBE!!!75PTS
He's slow and hasn't been a point per game player since 2015. If he comes out next year and puts up 80+ points I'll change my mind, but I predict more 60-70 from him.

It just gets to a point where you can't keep chalking it up to "off years". I guess you could say I'm using speculation in my analysis, but I think going forward he is more of 60-70 point guy (probably closer to 60).

The guy is 26 years old and has 537 points in 587 NHL games. He scores 20 even strength goals per year, has a career shooting % just under 13 and has never had a dynamic player to play with, and no, Matt Moulson and Kyle Okposo are not dynamic. I'm actually still baffled at Okposo's contract, let alone Moulson's.
He has great size (6'1" 211 lbs), wins half of his faceoffs, gets about 250 shots on net per year, is entering his prime and he's never scored less than 24 goals in a season, and with the lockout year pro-rated, his lowest career points total is 54, in his rookie season. He's never scored below 65 points in a season since his rookie year (pro-rated lockout season he has 81 points in 82 games)
John Tavares is 100% a franchise center, IMO. If we aquired him, it would be like having 2 Jack Eichels.

FFS, Eichel may never be a ppg player. - BeadyEyedDouche
I've never really bought the whole "players prime" thing being 26-30, I think with young elite forwards usually it's 21-25. I guess I just see him as being on the downward (60-70 points). But I definitely wouldn't call him a franchise center, at least not right now.

Last time he scored in the 60 point range, his next season he almost won the Art Ross.
A player being in his prime isn't just about how many points he scores, its about becoming an all around player, learning to be defensively responsible and be smart with the puck and become a leader.

Let's just see how he does this year with some Ebs on his line. He's probably the best winger he's ever played with

He will always be fondly remember just for this goal alone.
