Carol Schram: Vancouver Canucks add 5 players on busy first day of free agency The Vancouver Canucks were active during the first day of free agency, signing forwards Sam Gagner and Alexander Burmistrov, defensemen Michael Del Zotto and Patrick Wiercioch and goaltender Anders Nilsson, as well as re-signing winger Anton Rodin.

I won't hate on any of those signings but I find it curious they spent more on Nilsson than Miller accepted in Anaheim. The rebuild is a process full of reclamation projects and prospects, it will be fun to see which guys step up and who gets moved out.

PS, please trade Baertschi.

My guess is that Nilsson had other options.

Once it became clear at mid-week that Miller was moving on, the Canucks probably had to move pretty quickly to find a suitable Plan B. They may have had to outbid the competition to get an assurance that they'd get their man.

He played well in Buffalo last year, good signing imo.

I think Vancouver, NYR, Minnesota are the big winners so far (slight nod to the Pens for a couple of low-cost / could contribute a lot players).

Every player Vancouver signed I was thinking would be nice for the Pens to target. Nice job!

Thanks Carol. Signings a good move to help rebuild. Hope you can let us know about Camp Prospects and answer my questions put you about Palmu.

With UFA's JB now changed dynamic. A slow two way group of players now were added SPEED and skill. This will make development more competitive for prospects needing to really earn it to break through. Not to mention goalie tandem to keep it real.

He had great numbers but hardly played. I know this because I had him on a deep fantasy team but Bylsma seemed to believe that if Lehner was healthy enough to tie his skates he would get the nod every night. It did seem like when Nilsson played he's lose 3-2 but put up a .925 save %.

No matter what this swedish tandem can't possibly be worse than the finnish one in Dallas last year

There's always the TDL...

Best signing today: Beau Bennett, 1 yr for a league minimum.

All solid signings & good term & $$$'s.

In goal will look to be a tandem rotation.
Anything that can help the PP is a bonus.
Prolly see 4 F & 1 D on it & hope its never Tanev again lol

The luckiest player today was Dominic Moore. He went from hockey scrub to future HHOF player in one day.

All the players Vancouver signed are pretty "meh" in terms of NHL quality, however, they'll create some internal competition within the organization so the kids don't get handed jobs.

The team will still suck next year...

Seems you are back on the wagon with all the JB moves from TDL to free agency as you changed your affiliation back to Canucks
