I think the silliest part is what did they think the Canucks were going to do? Nobody is under the illusion that free agency was going to fix the team, so I don't really see how you can be a loser in that scenario. The Canucks will be bad regardless. They didn't take on big contracts and they got some guys to fill gaps while they wait for the kid. It's got to be seen as a plus. - micah555
Exactly. Short term deals that can be flipped for picks. We lost some guys. We added some guys. It' not like we traded 2 1sts and a 2nd for Kessel. We are bottom 5 ez. Most of the people on here that have questioned JB over the years are good with these moves.
Good TDL
Good Draft
Good UFA
Nobody is under the illusion we are gunning for the playoffs to keep Sedins happy. Only certain TSN analysts that dislike VAN do.
Just because we didn't win a lottery for a generational player and turn our rebuild around in a year, doesn't mean JB is doing it wrong. |

But if TSN says that they'll lose viewership, TSN is only saying what their audience wants to hear. STOP WATCHING TSN, STOP LISTENING TO TSN.

Take a look at Columbus how quick they turned things around. Montreal 2 years ago were battling us for bottom 3 at one point .Same with Columbus .
A few good years of drafting. Saying goodbye to old players and smart trades will turn a team in a hurry - VANTEL

Exactly my point.
Burr was a good Canuck and a good soldier, but let's not get crazy.
The kid should take the number.
Love the humility though on this kid...
I just hope we surround him with some brashness, so they can dominate when the game gets physical as well.

Are you guys really that dense?
Twenty seven year old Turris leads his club to the semi finals . Old man Henrik gets bumped down and maybe didn't see the inside of the defensive zone in the second half of the season. - VANTEL
League MVP & a cup finals.
Turris is behind in the race.
Nobody cares who lost in the semis.
The Leafs would be envious though. |

Wow, great UFA day. I don't think either MDZ or Gagner will be improvments over Hansen and Sbisa necessarily but they are cheap and are good TDL options.
Burmistov, Nilsson and Wiercioch are good depth as well. I would still like to see a guy like King brought in for some much needed hitting.

yeah, it was that one move that set me off...not the 10+ stupid ass moves prior to it. Btw I didn't leave cuz of Benning or because of any of his moves lol, I still posted at HFVan. I left Carol's blogs because it was unbearable in here for anyone who questioned Benning at that time

Oh i know, trading your boy kesler and the heckling you got.....
Plus the initial disdain he showed for analytics.
I love JB, got a poster of him above my bed right next to my Gilles one......
I think he's done fairly well with the crap he was handed, the only contract that looks like it could be an anchor that he's signed is Ericsson, but i think he's a far better player then he showed last year
We won't know how good hee was until 5 or so more years pass... |

I've despised JB up until this past TDL. Since then I've been fine with the moves so hopefully he's learning/adapting.
If that Sutter-Demers rumour is true, that's also a great sign in my books. |

Sure, but this team is still pretty weak upfront, not every player needs to be speedy goalscorer. Smith-pelly is another option. |

Today's NHL you need to be able to contribute offensively to be in line up. Players like JV, MacEwen, Gadjovich and Lind are supposed to bring the heavier game with skill. You can't bring in brutes to play when your team has no super star talent. |

Unlike some here i havent given up on Virtanen yet. I remember lots of power forwards taking years to figure it out before they made it. Does Virtanen deserve a spot on the opening day roster, yes in Utica . I think that a full season in the Ahl will cause him to focus better on being a professional and giving what it takes to make the big show. I do believe expections need to be tempered as to his potential but he could one day be a useful piece of the puzzle. If some need reminding of the struggles of power forwards rememer the paths Guerin, Bertuzzi ,
even Shanahan went through early in their careers. |

King is just a flat out bad hockey player, I don't care if he hits. He sucks. Why do you want to ice a player who struggles in all 3 zones and drags down his linemates?
DSP can score once in awhile though at least but he's a scrub too. If you can find functional toughness then sign me up, but I don't want more scrubs taking up minutes and dragging down linemates.
I'm all for tanking, but not in a way where the team ices players who the young players can't play well with if they end up on the same line.
Dorsett already said he's good to go next year, one of those guys is enough. If you can find someone decent as a player sign me up though. Like Edmonton with Maroon/Kassian/Lucic. |

Good take. But remember JV has already spent a season in AHL. So he may be bridging his way into NHL form this season. It's part of finding your game. So if he earns it out of camp or gets shuttled back and forth it's all part of the process this season. The good thing with all the JB moves is there will be competition for spots at camp and Green won't hand out anything. |
