So you're happy with the deal ?

I think so. I don't see him play a lot but if the deal turns out to be Marleau plus a decent trade for JVR for what will probably be two years, I don't mind the $.

Every teams goal should be to have at least one player making $6 million plus that's 40 years old

Contract is front end loaded. Move him to LGK or engineer a lock out in year three if it's a problem.
- Canada Cup

Front end loaded or not it's a +35 contract for 18+ mil.

Welcome to Robidas Island, a cap free zone (35 yr old signing or not). Alternatively, trade to a team looking to get to cap floor. Actual $ owed in year three is low. I don't expect him to be on the Leafs in year three.

Great, be prepared to pay a price to unload him.

I think it's a bad deal. Leafs would have been better off saving the cap space and keeping JVR and offering futures IMO.

They do have some trade-able assets to help themselves out.

The move is to obviously replace jvr, who i think will be dealt for a D. The problem i see with your 3rd year comment is your buyout option with marleau is nixed due to 35 plus contract status. You cant trade him unless he waives in which case you will have to retain. Its a head scratcher move given LL has said the rebuild isnt complete. Buying marleau now though is better than 3 years from now

"Veteran" leadership for new leafs rookie core? No doubt will probably wear the C. I guess the rebuild is over for TOR?

He has been listed as both c/RW. He plays both. From what I have seen of him I preferred him as a winger.
- Reubenkincade

well that explains it. At the trade he was listed as RW

They've realized they're just one or two old men away from having a winner.

He's like Lind and can play both. Like the versatitly of forward players being assembled. Gagner also like that and Dahlen plus EP. Center is the hardest position to play so having someone capable to do it is better then your pure wingers like the versatile Burr and Hanson types that played up and down the line up.
- Nuck4U

I wonder what the canucks plan are for him then. I looked at it like we signed a G, C 2D and a RW. If they plan on him as C theres a log jam. Also mean no grigorenko barring trade of sutter and I doubt that would happen right now. Maybe Yakopov too

Regardless Im pretty happy about the haul he managed 1 one day. Seems like way more than any other team

Like I said in my post the forwards being assembled are versatile playing center or wing. There is no logjam. Just like the forwards drafted. Except for Palmu his versatility, if he pans out, could be playing on point in PP.

Agree since TDL to free agency JB seems to be doing a lot well and it's driving the pundits and media crazy. They like their boxes of teams being winners and making playoffs and Canucks being losers and spinning their wheels.
