The entertainment value should be better but they're still a bottom five team. Which is a good thing. They need a few more strong drafts if they wanna challenge for a Cup down the road. - LeftCoaster
Totally. I lthink like the signings for that reason: not trying to push for playoffs but giving some younger vets a shot and the kids room to grow. This way none of the kids needs to get taxed with too much icetime or responsibility |

"A year ago the Canucks spent $36 million alone on Loui Eriksson, and he scored 11 goals. This year, they got six players for $22.7 million all in"

What if LE scores 30 and Gagner/Burmistrov/MDZ score 11 goals combined?

The Ericsson signing sucks......that can't be disputed. But it will have zero impact on the teams future |

They are finally building for the future and not this coming season. |

Like our prospects now have some time to develop. |

Not by much. Miller was our rock and Markstrom was weak last season. Two B goalies are fighting for a spot now. Rookie coach again... still very weak defensively even with MDZ...
These players give the coach the ability to teach our very young players structured hockey.... but I don't think for a minute that it gives us a better shot at crawling out of the basement... none the less... if we move out of top 3 lotto spots because our kids are learning to play properly... what are you to do? You can't just have your developing players chasing the puck their entire early years... you need to put some skill around them. I also expect to lose more vets soon as well. I feel this is LE last season here. 27 is becoming the new 30 something very soon for this team.

I agree with your thoughts booner, there has been a lot of praise for Benning but these picks are just to help out short term. But there will be a little more excitement for at least a couple of months. |

Thanks Carol. Not to put you on the spot. Whatever you find out is cool.
The post was this from your Palmu blog:
Thursday @ 3:10 PM ET
Carol will you be at UBC to watch prospects? If so, on Palmu, if you noticed on your blog video, we raised this end of last thread, he's been used on the point in PP. Could you ask if Palmu could be a PP QB option? Something that he could work on?
Plus we know of contract for Finish league which was done before draft. Maybe if he was passed over again. Is there an out clause where AHL would be an option now for Palmu? Will you be able to ask Canucks what they would want now after seeing him at development camp? - Nuck4U
OK.
I've been told that coach Green won't be available next week, so I'm not expecting to have a chance to ask specific deployment questions—especially about a player that's at least a couple of years away from the big club.
I'll see if I can get a read on whether Palmu's going back to Finland for sure but I think Camp will be more about individual players than big-picture strategy. |

I think we are forgetting that we moved Hansen and burr.
Those guys needed to be replaced in the lineup.
Gagner and that ruskie effectively do that.
The team will still struggle. But we won't have to force Brock, Goldobin JV, Rodin or OJ in, if they're not ready.
Still hope at least one forces their way in. |

I like dummies that think we are building a playoff team with today choices. Toronto media are that dumb don't kid yourself.
A guy like Del Zotto will allow us to make a trade and pick up another piece of the future. He won't get us to the playoffs |

100%
it's about insulating our prospects and allowing us to trade for future assets.
And not relying on Megma, Chaput, Skille, Biega to play regular minutes.

Welll said. It's all starting to fit with these moves. Hey with the draft lotto you can finish like Flyers and win a top draft position. So it's all in play.
Plus how can you have the highest paid player be LE on the Canucks next season. Stars are looking for a RW for top 6 would LE waive for his former team? If not, let's hope for a bounce back year and LE's willingness to waive to a contender when Sedins are gone. |

This is still not a playoff club…but a gut feeling tells me we are not bottom 5 either.

Yes Yes! We know this... But can he lead us to that #1 pick?
Or should we have traded for Taylor Hall? |

We are bottom 5 . We signed players today that were signed to buy time and hopefully we don't get embarrassed. We don't want to be like the Oilers and Leafs were for the last decade. |

I am not a Ryan Miller fan, but without him last year this team gets blown out on many nights.
I still think we are a bottom 5 for sure. |

i think we're a bit better than bottom 5 for most of the season.
But i hope we are out of the playoff race and move some players for assets at the tdl again, if anyone is dumb enough to bite.
I think an improved PP could offset the difference btwn miler and marky/nilsson. |

But Miller was also the reason we got blown out on many nights…even as good as he was sometimes. I've said it before, because it's a good draft year we will finish 20-25. Canuck Luck. |

And somehow they got the #1 pick?
What are the odds that those 3 teams with extremely unlikely odds all receive picks 1 through 3?
Until the Draft Lottery is broadast live... It's just wrestling to me.
Hell... I even came out of retirement to announce to you guys that I would bet that we got the #5 pick again... Well Well Well...
Unbelievable. |

Good so far. MDZ, Burmistrov and Nilsson are good pickups while I'm not sure on Gagner. Time will tell. |
