I just saw the leaked list of KHL salaries, they're not nearly as big as I thought/has been reported. Kovalchuk was the highest paid player at $5.5M equivalent in Rubles. If he stays he'll likely get a raise to over $7M, that's the rumored contract for Radulov. Rubles are a risky proposition at best right now. And the highest paid player was making "only" the equivalent of $5.5M when the bottom could drop out at any time. The 20th highest paid player, Niklas Svedberg, makes a "paltry" $1.3M equivalent. The money just isn't there.
The only lure, and it is a big one for Russians, is going home, but they lose all the creature comforts they get here, like currency stability, planes that don't crash, top notch facilities, the best doctors, you don't need a 24 hour bodyguard here. Even Edmonton and Winnipeg aren't (frank)ing Kazan. - Wetbandit1
Athletes salaries are untaxed in Russia bud. In the US they are taxed at nearly 40%. Money is more even than you think. |

Those NJ picks were the ones acquired in the Marc Savard trade with Florida, and as compensation for losing Lou Lamoriello to TOR.
Nice asset management lol |

Yeah, and the Ruble can also fall off the table and lose 20% of its value in one day. If the money is even it's really not because of the massive instability. |

Why? It's not even remotely the same. You walk into work tomorrow and your check is 20% less than it should be. And then it'll be another 20% less in two weeks. I'm sure you'd be thrilled. |

My bad, you were talking about Johansson weren't you?
You were talking about Kuz before that and Kuz scored 59 points last year I thought you were talking about him. |

That's what I was just looking at too. Add Boyle and Zajac too.
20M in cap space.
Could even take Kovy back too. - JVince11
Could he have played left wing?
I would have given up a 2nd and a 3rd for him that could have been a really solid top 6
Kane Eichel Reinhart
Johansson ROR Okposo
Puilott Girgensons Pommer
Moulson Larsson Erod

Johansen plays all 3 forward positions but I think most of his time has been spent at left wing |

I really feel like Pouliet is gonna get that 2LW at this point unless a young pup outplays him in camp or has better chemistry.
Bots comment that he sees him able to fill in on any line as a LW is what I'm going off.
I also think that a Kane extension is the only approach here. Not gonna get a legit LW back for a rental LW and idk if anyone but Nylander has top line potential and he's at least 1.5 years from every day NHL work.
Only other option is if they have KO or Pommer play LW. |

He was 2C until Kuzy came along.
Kuzy started at RW with AO and Backstrom for that half year then moved to 2C for his 2nd full season. I think this was Kuzy's 3rd year |

The better option is to keep the RW's where they belong, and play Gus at 3 LW. I really hope/expect Botts to keep looking for another LW.
But if he doesn't find one, unless (like you said) a kid makes the roster: Kane, Pouliot, Gus and Moulson.
Might be able to get away with this, since our top 3 RW looks good: KO, Skunk, Pommer.

Ovi for Kane + picks would clear up some cap room for Washington (runs and hides) |
