I would really like to understand how we were not in on this Marcus Johansson trade

I'm with you. What a steal for a great player with huge upward potential. Maybe he was not even on JBotts radar as being available?

Because he's a winger, and we don't need to trade assets for them

Perhaps. It kills me tho because I feel like he would have bee a near perfect fit on this team. And to give up minimal assets? complete steal by NJ

Not sure if serious but a 2nd and a 3rd for speedy LW that can score 20+ is an absolute steal

the point here would be that if your centres are as good as we believe ours are, we dont really need to pay much of anything to find wingers for them.

I know it looks much better but i still wouldn't move any big asset or top 60 pick for anything other than a d-man

I agree. We've invested enough assets in wingers IMO

Let Bailey, Baptiste, Fasching, Nylander etc fill in the open spots

If Botts is trying to mold the Sabres like the Penguins the solution seemed to be finding wingers under rocks as opposed to giving up picks

A (hopefully) low 2nd and 3rd round pick for a younger 20+ goal scorer is nothing to me. Especially one that has speed. We would be better with him

he didn't exactly find them under rocks. They had legitimate success in the AHL before joining a stacked roster. We have neither right now

I mean best case this would probably be somewhere between 40-45, not all that low.

and a decent chunk of cap. Develop your own wingers and play them next to eichel and ror you'd get similar production or at least goal scoring. it just makes more sense at this point.

Plus it would give the kids some more time in Rochester...

AAAAAAAAND they could move on from Kane after this season

Just a thought for Broads

Make that trade and then move Kane at the deadline and you still have Johansson and one of Bailey or Baptiste next season...

Fair enough also keep in mind Johansson has 2 years left on a deal that is already paying him $4.6 a year, and if they're planning on keeping Kane it might not have been the best fit

Based on the production Bailey, Baptiste, Faching or Nylander have shown at the NHL level (nothing) im not super confident that will be true.

I think Nylander has a shot. But Bailey ect don't look like top 6 players to me at this point

I wouldn't write off Baptiste, with his speed I could see him in the top 6
