He got a $70 million dollar signing bonus...making his actual salary $14 million total...its buyout proof
- Stripes77

to my knowledge...
The buyout Cap hit is determined by the amount of salary remaining at the time of the buyout

How does the bonus upfront make it so he can't be bought out?

I could see him scoring 80 (points) next year if Eberle and him mesh. But I could also see him scoring 60 if it goes badly
- chilliard77

How can a 3 time hart finalists and 1 point from the scoring title
Not be in your category of a franchise Center?

If jack got that would you not call him a franchise Center? Jw

Our President is a 14 year old girl worried about her reputation in school and looking cool more than any actual socially valued commodity. I'm sure he didn't have to say much

They made his contract lockout proof too. He gets paid regardless

Look at O'reillys cap hit if you were to buy him out almost his full cap hit now.

Because most of his cap hit is signing bonuses

It sounds like his definition of "franchise" is the same as our definition of "generational"

It's "buyout proof" because the team would get practically no savings from it.

Tried using capfriendly's buyout calculator to get the exact details of this contract but they haven't updated the bonuses yet

Just look at O'reilly. Same principle was used for his contract.

A lot of what I'm saying depends on next year. I told you last night some of it was speculation. Two down years is a trend, if he has a third next year, it's more than that. Let's just see how he does next season

That's the one I had pulled up actually lol.

I can't explain the logistics of why it works that way, but his is the same.

We'd only save $666,667 if we bought out his contract

Buyouts are based on the players actual salary for that season. O'Reilly is only getting a $1 million based salary. Price's will be what $1.75 million? But a cap hit of $10.5?

Ryan O'Reilly is 26 years old at the date of the buyout
Salary remaining: $6,000,000 (with an additional $35,500,000 in signing bonuses remaining)
The buyout ratio is 2/3, which results in a total buyout cost of $4,000,000
There are 6 years remaining on this contract
The buyout will be spread out over 12 years
The annual buyout cost is $333,333
The buyout cap hit is displayed in the far right column

The bold is the key part
Once the bonuses are paid, it doesn't count as far as I know
So like I said...
it depends when Price is scheduled to get the bonuses

It's bc O'Reilly has so much bonus $$$ left that still has to be paid in addition to his salary
If the bonus $$$ was already paid,
his buyout would be much more affordable for us

Now that I'm thinking about buyouts, random question. Has a team ever bought out an ELC?

So you guys want Eichel, the guy who throws hissy fits when things don't go his way, or threatens to sign elsewhere if no management changes were made, to be your captain? LOL good luck with that...

Why would they? It's less than a million per year.

That's why I was asking, I seem to remember it happening once because of "attitude" but I don't know if it actually happened or I'm just crazy
