Since I started paying for games back in 98/99 I've been treated pretty well in regards to watching prospects develop into meaningful difference makers. They also did well with reclamation projects like the west coast express line.

the drafting's been absolute poop. horse poop. embarrassing. But the player development/coaching at both levels wasn't that bad at all IMO.
Your comedic efforts in this thread have not gone unappreciated. Thank you,

I don't see a fit in Toronto for Marleau. I thought it was a bad signing - VANTEL
It was a poor signing considering what the Leafs are trying to do but I understand why Marleau went there...it was a Babcock deal pretty much cut and dry. Babcock loves Marleau from his gold medal days and wants that environment around the kids I get it. |

Patrick Marleau signing for 3 years at the same age as the twins concerns me. I don't think they are ready to call it quits yet.
- VanHockeyGuy
I think you are spot on. If they have any juice left we will find out this coming season. If they have a good year then they will be back for more. |

I try my best.
The fact that the canucks (in some instances) have made chicken salad out of chicken poop is something that should be recognized.
I am the first to dump all over the canuck management but I'm willing to throw them a bone on their development.
Well at least it's a whole lot better than their drafting has been. I guess when you've been fed a steady diet of poop, piss starts to look pretty good. |

As long as the leafs improve season after season and continue to have a dynamic roster of young stars and experienced vets, then you can't give them too much grief.
They are doing what many have said the oilers should have done... surround their young stars with the stability and knowledge of veterans. Marleau fits that need perfectly. The contract he got is meaningless at this point in their rebuild. |

I agree . I posted after they would be a great addition to a team competing.
Gagner may soften the blow of their departure a little but Benning needs to find a number one center soon.
If they sign a one year extension it is not the end of the world but make it a cheap signing so that they can add another piece or two. A younger type free agent if one is available. - VANTEL
I think they'd much rather extend here on the cheap then go anywhere else no matter the money. having $10 million in cap space would be nice. |

Fine if we're resigning them, they better have some sort of skin issue like hossa. |

That was my initial take as well. Throw big money at an aging veteran is the opposite of the plan they have been preaching. One good season and they change course/accelerate.
Since then I have come around on it, understanding his impact for the young squad but still find the criticisms of LE signing a bit hypocritical from the media in comparison |

It's the timing of the LE signing.
He signed with a team on the decline while Marleau signed with a team on the rise. |

Yeah thats why I said a bit. For me, I think LE and Marleau were players that the teams identified with the skills, quality and longevity that they wanted to ingrain in the organizations, and who they feel arent available too often |

Morning Gents!
Already got 18 holes in this morning. It was pretty ugly. Bogey golf all day.
Did anybody go see any hockey?
All I hear about is that we have got the next Sedin's.
I want to know about the defence. Anybody on the D showing some muscle or showing promise other then OJ? |

Without PP time, I don't know if they can be effective enough. If they want to continue past this year they have to learn to play with other players regularly. - manvanfan
2nd unit PP and offensive/neutral zone starts. Defensively they are scary, they just can't keep up. |

Something needs to be done with them. Can't keep limiting the better offensive players by making them start in the Dzone and leaving the Ozone solely for the Sedin's. They Sedin's almost 60% Ozone starts last season. Bo and Sutter down in the low 40's. |

They look so good together, it's hard to want to separate them and to stick with it. Daniel did not shoot as much last year as he normally does. Henrik needs someone who is going to shot.
Some yesterday said that Daniel they think is better then Henrik but I think it's the other way around. Henrik is the set up man, he needs someone who's going to shoot and score. |

Twins still got some juice left in the tank. I'd say if the team stays generally healthy and coach green can get this team to be more offensive minded.
A conservative guestimate would be60-65 points each.
And Eriksson cant possibly get any worse.
I'll pencil him in for 20 goals.
