Here we go again. Cliche's are red flags... time to panic.
- boonerbuck
I never said anything about panicking. I want nothing more than to have boeser and company fight for 1 spot on this team. I dont think a aingle prospect should be given anything. My main point in posting was that benning shouldnt care about being competitive next year. Why even try. Keep every kid in utica, ice a bunch of scraps and let Utica develop a winning culture. Until the sedins are gone anything short of a top 5 pick is stupid. |

Lol relax donny no need to drive the exaggeration bus. Im not panicking at all, simply addressing what might be the focus of management, something this fan base has argued was a waste of time the last 3 years. I dont want to be competitive. Let the sedins have one more crappy year, let all the kids develop in utica, let Vancouver be a bottom 3 team and let it all start 2018/2019. Jim needs to forget about getting this team competitive next year, its not happening. |

I think jim ans trevor are best not to say anything at all. Trevor says "we call it a rebuild, if that is what the fans and media are wanting to call it" and no less than 2 months later Jim says "we will always look to see about adding more players that will make this team competitive". You guys are all saying "half this fan base would rather jim jist come out and say "we are going to rebuild" and you are exactly right. If jim said that 3 years ago he we wouls probably be in a much netter position than we would be today lol. |

Benning has to say sh*t to keep the muppets happy. Most people see/know what is going on.
Come join me for a jazz cigarette in the garden. It's lovely. |

I don't think those are mutually exclusive. What I would think being "competitive" means is not gifting spots to young players as you said, but also being able to ice a team that isn't going to get run over every single night just to tank for a pick. He knows/his boss knows the fair-weatherness of the fan base, so icing a team that is competitive – ie. has a *chance* to win every night so people have that hope to watch – is to their advantage with the fans, but also with the players they just brought in. If the team isn't competitive, why would anyone pony up for them at the TDL? A bit of an exaggeration there, but a guy with 40 points looks much better than a guy with 30
Also, imagine being on the Comets/college and seeing the Canucks get creamed every night. Wouldn't be the most inviting and inspiring team to join, though I don't know how much we are right now anyway |

I interpreted his statement as the team being competitive, rather than the kids battling for spots competitive. Who gives a poop what i say lol. I have zero influence on the team |

For one fo converse one joins in the conversation not a redirection.
I'll start...
Never heard JB say competitive means a PO run.
Never heard him say lets get blown out every game.
Never heard him say expectations r high other than excited about the prospects. |

Totally agree. Trevor and jim are honestly dumb and dumber when it comes to the media. Actions speak louder than words and hansen and burrows trades + the draft direction was a great testament to that. Jim infront of a camera or mic is just the worst lol. |

Lol i would sooner see the canucks fails and utica be dominant than the other way around. And maybe you are right, maybe he is referring to being competitive for roster spots rather than the team, sounds more appealing to me that way than the way i interpreted it - Codes1087
I would rather see the Canucks be dominant, but that ain't gonna happen any time soon
And ya, hopefully he's smart enough to not mean competitive as in playoff push... more just competitive enough so we're not this:

I think competitive is to ensure they have an NHL calibre team. Loading the lineup with Megna's, Chaput's, and prospects that aren't ready is not going to let them be competitive. He isn't collecting or acquiring top players, but solid NHL bodies to keep the ones that aren't ready off the roster, particularly with the media/fan outrage of his roster last season; thats how I took his statement |

I think his is fairly close to mine. He added more guys that are decent enough to make the team be competitive and keep prospects down/away from the team, but not good enough to really make the team jump 10 places in the standings.
I was a little leary of Gagner at first, but the guy has not flourished in a top-9 unsheltered role, MDZ has upside that hasnt delivered for a few years now, and Nillson is streaky. Two streaky goalies will almost assure a bottom 5 finish IMO, whereas Utica might actually be competing for a Calder - WhiteLie
To be honest i interpreted it differently but i can see where you would get that. Jumping 10 sppts would be a fail imo. I love what he did in free agency and adding more scrubs on stpp gap 1 year deals to keep the kids away imo would be the best thing for this club. I think the sedins leaving next year and spits opening up (along with 14 mill cap space) is the time to maybe focus on all that stuff |

We just don't agree on how to rebuild. I won't support tanking on purpose. Makes my blood boil. I go to the majority of the games and I pay to see a solid effort. Not a 5-1 loss you seem to be after. (frank) that. They need to dress some vets so the product is tolerable |
