The Avs have very specific requests for a Duchene trade. Certain parts are probably negotiable, but some, like a young D man, are not. Teams may balk at having to give that up, but that is what it takes. You can't unload a player for picks and prospects to a playoff team and hope those garbage prospects and mid-late first round picks payoff. these days everyone wants a trade rape. We all can't be the Hawks and the Pens who mysteriously screw every team they trade with (wonder if the league has anything to do with that). |

Then what will likely happen is either:
A) They lose him for nothing in two years and he's miserable the entire time he has left with Colorado
B) Sakic eventually realizes that he was asking for an unrealistic return and he takes less than what he was holding out for. That doesn't mean he takes peanuts, either, for the record. But I don't see any way he's getting "three or four high-end pieces".
It's obvious nobody thinks Duchene is worth what Sakic is demanding. |

This is what the confusing and annoying part of this whole ordeal, no one knows what these demands are. They are always being reported from outside sources from the other teams talking to the Avs.
Like the Hamonic stuff, you got multiple Isle beat writers saying different things, you have the Avs guys saying its not true. Its a big mess and fans are jumping to conclusion and being frustrated bc the story chances every day or 2.
I think Sakic is asking for a good haul, which he should, he gets roasted for "trading ROR for scraps" even though it was a futures deal and 4 out of those 5 pieces are 22 and under working their way into the team.
Sakic asks for a better less risk in futures package for Duchene and hes a monster? I dont get it |

When Sakic turns down Hamonic, a first and a prospect, and then turns around and signs Bernier, one just can't take Sakic and COL Management seriously...Patrick Roy resigning makes more and more sense. |

I dont think thats accurate, that has been disputed by Avs writers and another Isles writer, not sure who that guy was.
Yet leak comes out, everyone jumps on it as it must be 100% true and its the same LOLorado crap.
Avs Writers said the team wanted no part of Hamonic, so why would that be some crazy greedy story of Sakic asking for more and more with Hamonic when they didnt want him as a target to begin with? |

Just a rumor, but I heard it had something to do with Bigfoot coming out of hiding and playing for the Flyers. (as per trusted EK source) |

I'm not saying or speculating as to what the exact price is. "Three or four high-end pieces" was reported, so that's what I'm running with. Obviously those are subjective descriptors, so I take it with a grain of salt.
I don't know what was offered or what specifically was asked for, all I'm saying is that it's obvious at this point that whatever Sakic wants...other GM's don't believe Duchene is worth.
Not saying he's a monster either. He's entitled to demand whatever he wants and should be working to get the best return for his player. I'm not faulting him for it. I just don't personally believe it's working, going to work out, or going to get any better than it was this time around.
I just don't see Duchene's value to other GM's going up at this point, unless he returns to COL and has a major bounce-back year, which I think is fair to say seems like a big mountain to climb given this whole off-season ordeal and the current state of the Avalanche. |

Its a gamble but hes a world class player. You dont sell low on a player like that bc he had a rough 40 game stretch. I just dont see the logic of thinking you are getting a reclaim project in duchene so lets offer pennies on the dollar (no saying teams are doign that, but they differently are not getting in the ball park yet)
Its a dumb and frustrating situation, but if teams wont even offer up the 1st requirement of a dman 25 and younger who is in the NHL now or NHL ready...I dont see why he should move away from that when thats the whole point of exploring a duchene trade.
Who knows what the Avs team will be like next season, they cant be worse, there is no way that can happen. I actually like the small moves Sakic has done but whatever people like to poop on them for no reason bc its the circle jerk thing to do now.
Avs do a move, no matter what it is, and just point and laugh at sakic while everyone else congratulations one another for their rip on the avs |

Honest question: Where do you, personally, draw the line on the whole thing?
Obviously keeping a guy who isn't thrilled to be there for two seasons and losing him for free would be rock-bottom. So at what point does something have to give? Sakic can't sit on him forever and say "well I held out for the return I needed" if it ultimately leads to losing him for nothing.
At some point, a lesser (and again, when I say "lesser" I'm not saying "a bad return") return has to be more valuable than just letting him rot and, essentially, throwing him away. |

I dont know, I would rather keep him and roll the dice in him either "upping his value" even though I dont agree with how people think hes value is that low now, or just hope he resigns and let him be a long term Av
