I dont know, I would rather keep him and roll the dice in him either "upping his value" even though I dont agree with how people think hes value is that low now, or just hope he resigns and let him be a long term Av

That's fair. I just have the idea in my head that he has to have moved on, mentally, from the Avalanche at this point. I assume he accepted the fact that he was (previously) likely to be traded. It's gotta be tough to push that out of your head and go back and be totally committed. I don't know, that's just my speculation and opinion so who knows.

It just seems like he can't be too happy with the way everything is going at this point. Avs are in a rut, he was ready to be moved and that didn't happen, there was some (alleged?) organizational criticism of him, etc... It just seems less than likely, to me, that he is going to come back and go out there and tear things up.

at what point is Sakic released of his duties and the next GM quickly trades Duchene for much less than what Sakic is trying to get?

The criticism was from Roy who is now gone. The Avs had no chance of being good last year with Roy quitting so close to the season starting. Half their lineup was Roy guys and they were garbage. If they were smart they would sit him down and say we're moving on from the Roy era and we want you to be one of the leaders of this team going forward. New culture and hopefully better results. A healthy Varly should help things out. Lots of young D guys who will be looking to prove them selves and hopefully one of them breaks out.

If we had to trade him I would ideally try a one-for-one with Columbus for Jones.

that makes no sense...if Sakic doesn't make inquries to better his team, he should be fired.
- jimi james

He's not trying to get rid of him, that's the whole point. He's still important to the Avs, so if a team wants him you can come with offers, if not they still want him back.

It's best for both sides to move on but not taking any trade value back bc people think he needs to be traded no matter what

Eff Sakic and his ridiculous demands. This player is good, but (to use a term that has become fashionable lately) "not a generational player." Just do not see this player that worthy for what is being asked.

And I think that return would be insane for Columbus to pay. I also don't believe Jarmo would even consider that for a fraction of a second.

There is a metric-ton of risk in forking over a massive price for Duchene, in that he's a UFA in two years. There's zero guarantee that he likes where he goes and trading a young uber-talented RHD in Jones, who will be under team-control for a very long time, could be a mistake of massive proportion.

So, how is Columbus going to get offensive help and be able to pay Jones and Werenski in a few years? Everyone is a risk to leave a team. Duchene wants to win and Columbus is close. They need more offense and they can be serious contenders. Remember they have to compete with Pittsburgh.

All teams and fans are waiting anxiously on where Paul Byron goes. The NHL will be defined by this.

It would be tough to have to come back if he has mentally moved on, but he sitll is a pro athlete that has to do his job. He wont be doing himself any favours if he mentally checked out for multiple years. He would be leaving millions and millions of dollars on the table if he felt like he had his feelings hurt with the Avs listening to offers for him.

I think he needs to go somewhere else to win, he deserves it, but at the same time, Its not a charity here and the set matt duchene free cost is a donation.
Avs have a lot of needs and have a prime player in Dutch, it has to make sense for them too and not just doing a favour for Matt

The sheer misery this man has to go through. He hates winning Cups in Pittsburgh. He's waiting right now at the Pittsburgh airport waiting to be traded to Chicago to be The Man. He makes 9.5 million per season to play second fiddle to The Man Sidney Crosby. Now he has to wait for the Paul Byron Domino to fall.

Its believed Sakic hasnt shopped him once, its just convos from teams who are calling.
Sakic has even hinted at that himself, had a line of that he hasnt called a team about their players but will pick up the phone if someone calls about his

- DDM-Coga

If Sakic hasn't picked up a phone to call someone about their players that would explain why his team is officially one of the worst teams in the history of hockey.

I wish, not sure he has the same skillset.

But seriously, what are the Habs waiting for on that one now that Radu cap hit is gone?
