Do you want to go thru arbitration for AHL player? - A_SteamingLombardi
This is "player elected" arbitration, the team has no choice. Their choice was to offer a qualifying offer or not. The only way the team can walk away from the arbitrators ruling is if the salary award is >$3.5m, which won't happen in either case. In all likelihood, they will agree on a contract prior to the hearing. |

it also means that their NHL salary will also be paid if they are waived to the AHL. |

annoying to read comments about "walk away", when that isn't actually an option. |

Only if they agree on, or the players are awarded 1-way deals. Neither player has had a 1-way deal in the past, I guess Chaput has a case to make, but Boucher was on waivers 3 times last season. |

Nope. The only thing the player can seek is either a 1 year SPC or a 2 year SPC.
Article 12 of the CBA says:
"(ii) The decision of the Salary Arbitrator shall establish:
(A) the term of the SPC, based upon the Player's or Club's election of a one or two year SPC, as set forth in its brief and as consistent with this Article;
(B) the Paragraph 1 NHL Salary to be paid to the Player by the Club for the season(s) in respect to which the salary arbitration is conducted;
(C) the inclusion or otherwise of a Minor League clause (or clauses) and the amount of Paragraph 1 Minor League Salary to be paid under each of the season(s) in respect to which the salary arbitration is requested;
(D) a brief statement of the reasons for the decision, including identification of any comparable(s) relied on."
Both players will of course be seeking 1-way deals for financial security, but I'm sure the club would be pushing for 2-way deals. I expect both players will sign prior to the arbitration hearing, Boucher will sign a 1 year, high NHL, low AHL deal (900k/90k) and Chaput will sign a 1 year, low NHL, high AHL deal (650k/250k). Not a fun process for a player to hear the poop that a club will say about them to get the lowest award possible. |

Sedin's are in a "year to year mode" - VanHockeyGuy
Yes that's part of what he said, and had said before, but the context is he won't speculate on next year. He'll see where they are at.
http://www.tsn.ca/radio/a...ass-of-prospects-1.798094
Scroll toward the end of interview where he mentions the Sedins as in helping out this year working with the prospects.
The questions on Sedins is like pressing JB on rebuild to to say Canucks won't try to win any games this season. Trying to get Linden to say Sedins won't be back.
Maybe fans need to show up at end of season with thanks for the memories and enjoy retirement placards. |
