Completely off-topic, but I came across a movie this morning from 1936 called "Reefer Madness." It's an anti-"marihuana" propanganda movie that actually comes with a ridiculously horribly informed disclaimer at the beginning about the effects of this "plague" (insanity, violence, death, hallucinations, etc.). I didn't watch the whole thing, because it's horrible. Has anyone else ever seen this? - jmatchett383
I was done by the Hearst Publishing Co. Hearst owned forests for paper and saw hemp as competition so had to be destroyed. Also it was a piece to make it easier to put Mexicans and African Americans in jail. |

So apparently, Jagr reached out to Hexy and got turned down.
There you have it: Hextall is better than an 18-year-old supermodel. |

No, I don't usually try to find misinformed drug propaganda films from 50 years before I was born. I mainly stick to campy horrors. - jmatchett383
ironically being high is the only way to sit through 'reefer madness' |

It was actually (according to Wikipedia) made by a church group to be shown to parents as a morality tale. But it's possible that they got funding from people with vested interests, such as the one you listed. |

I'm with Bill regarding Markov. I'd love for them to trade Amac and get the Russian Mr Bean. I think he'd be a valuable upgrade. Especially if they can get him on a 1 yr deal, giving Sanheim a bit more time to develop into a top 4 role.
2 years, he'd have to back off the salary he's looking for. |

I know he has played right side before, but he plays mostly left defense which ruins the "top pair" thing. He would certainly be an upgrade over Manning though. |

From Hockey News:
Francois Beauchemin, D — Age: 37
2016-17: 5G, 13A, 18 Pts.
Even though he was the second-highest scoring Avalanche defenseman with the third-highest average ice time among all skaters, Colorado made the decision to cut ties with Beauchemin just as he readied himself for the final season of his three-year, $13.5-million deal. That’s a tough break for Beauchemin, but he might be exactly who a team seeking for some additional offense from the blueline and a veteran presence in the dressing room wants to add.
Of course, wherever he goes, Beauchemin needs to be happy with a lessened role. No matter how steady he may have been as a defender earlier in his career, the fact of the matter is he’s nearing 40 in a game that has only gotten faster in recent years. There’s no way he can keep up with the Connor McDavids of the NHL at this point, so Beauchemin is better utilized against bottom-six competition as a third-pairing guy. Luckily, that could make him a fit in a number of organizations.
Potential Destinations: Anaheim Ducks, Philadelphia Flyers, Los Angeles Kings

Looking at the list of centers (no idea of any of them played wing at all since being drafted or signed by the Flyers) is crazy.
Cole Bardreau
Connor Bunnaman
Radel Fazleev
Morgan Frost
David Kase
Tanner Laczynski
Pascal Laberge
Scott Laughton
Olle Lycksell
Nolan Patrick
Cooper Marody
Danick Martel
German Rubtsov
Anthony Salinitri
Mikhail Vorobyov
the Flyers have Vecchione listed as a RW on the development camp roster. they are very thin on wing, esp RW but I imagine some of the above will possibly end up on wing when/if signed - nastyflyergirl
Bunnaman definitely looks like a winger to me. Good shot from the circles and great hands around the net. Solid along the walls too.
Frost to me looks like a center. But I've only seen highlight videos. He has the ability to see plays developing steps ahead of others on the ice.
German Rubtsov, David Kase,Tanner Laczynski, Pascal Laberge and Cooper Marody have all played wing at some point and excelled doing it. |

Markov will be 39-years old soon. His decline will be sudden and steep.
See: Zhitnik, Kimmo, Streit, Kubina, Malakhov, Hatcher, Rathje, etc.
Maybe he's the exception to the rule, but I'm not signing him to multi-year, $6M/per to find out. - Tomahawk
Those are not fair assessments. All of the above struggled due to rule changes + injuries with exception to Kimmo who didnt decline steeply at all, his role was reduced which lead to his stat drop. |

Any thoughts on which number Elliot takes?
He can't wear his normal #1 and I doubt they let him use #31... |

Only two players (as far as I can tell) have ever played for all 3 NY-based NHL teams (not counting the Americans). Can you name them? |

If the Flyers were actually willing to throw MacDonald or Manning in the AHL and use the other as a 7th dman, I'd be in favor of signing Markov, but only to a 1 year deal. He'd improve the defense and be a nice trade chip at the deadline if the Flyers are out of contention.
Regardless, it seems unlikely the Flyers had any interest. Markov appears to be using them as leverage. Flyers would need to move salary like Filppula or Read to afford him anyway. |

That was no morality tale. Pure propaganda.
Hearst had a major hand in all Anti Marijuana Propaganda...
Post Mexican American war it was a way to deport migrant Mexican workers in the early 1900's. It was similar in nature to the Opium laws in SF to do the same to the Chinese. Later it became a way to throw African americans in jail who it was Jazz culture to smoke weed.

As much as I'd like Markov in place of Amac, I feel if Hexy really wanted to trade Amac that it would have already happened by now. Not to say he doesn't want to, but I feel he's tried and just hasn't found success. I mean if Hexy really wanted a "veteran" to fill for a 1 or 2 year deal, we could have just kept MDZ, who'd be cheaper than Markov. |
