Finally after 3 years we are starting to see some positives come about in the last four months . Every single positive has been about change.

Every time they have tried to build around the twins it has bit them in the ass . Canucks need change . Johnny Torts gave us that heads up three years ago.

- VANTEL

Yeah,he bounced back better than the Canucks did.

If JVR is worth a 1st and 2nd then why isn't Toronto trading him for that?
- A_SteamingLombardi

They need to rid themselves of cap and they are not pursuing picks anymore(trading them for their closing cup window actually lol), they are pursuing D.

New TV contract...owners can afford it. Plus NBA teams only have 12 man rosters and you can't win without a legit superstar or 2 so you have to pay up.
- Nucker101

Plus a 20+ person entourage is expensive.

Trade the picks for D, I'm sure Benning would listen to 2 1sts and a 2nd.

I will concede to that. No system will likely be developed to make a player of ,say,Darien Hatcher's ilk dominant or even effective.

Like many here rosters say its not the speed skill or toughness only.

Back in the day if u could not skate u didn't make the Habs roster.
The Flyers had team toughness out their ying.
The Islanders had depth & talent.
The Oilers high octane offense.
The Hawks a few superstars who carried the load.
The Pens always do it with superstar power.

All of the above had varying assets but all of them had chemistry & balance.
Speed & skill have ALWAYS been a part of the NHL.
Players have gotten bigger & in better shape & better equipment & support.

There is no such thing as what roster is needed today or in other era.
The PP & PK have been a staple of basic hockey.
Coaching brings out the rosters talents eg for us Roger Neilson.
Team defence is coachable & needs all players buying in.

How a GM assembles a team goes further than anything.
David Poile is my longest example as he builds thru deep D depth then adds.
Getting over the hump is his knock.
Goaltending is the root of success or failure. Stars can win a series but good goaltending can get it done & poor tending makes any team look bad.

In the end its elite talent needed up the middle as its been forever.
Line combos r about chemistry & combining skill sets.
Without a dynamic duo lines need all 3 players to combine as a unit.
Generally the 3rd wheel is the glue eg Burrows.

Listening to Trevor yesterday , I would be shocked if Sedins are not back.

His I am very close to them and they are in fantastic shape is the writing on the wall .

- VANTEL

He didn't commit but kept options open. I get why you want him to take a stand. They will assess based on their options next summer. A lot can happen in a year.

So if that means:
Some prospects are ready to take the next step like EP, Dahlen & Guadette?
Gagner works out and can fill at center?
UFA's are available and sign like Turris and Kane?
A trade of vet assets, if possible...?

We just won't know until next summer and why Sedin option hasn't been closed. So change is good and we want it and hope that it comes when ready or opportunity knocks.

Nice recap of teams, coaching effect and importance of good goaltending and Center. Chemistry will always be a staple.

Why you guys want to trade with Leafs is honestly mind boggling. How often does that turn out well?

If Benning is trading Tanev for one year service of JVR or Kane then he will be ran out of town. Wait until they are UFAs .

Give your head a shake guys. If you are trading Tanev think long term help , not provide Leafs cap relief.

- VANTEL

Look at the return that Hanzal got last yr. JVR is better then Hanzal. That is thinking long term. You are going to get more the just JVR from TO plus whatever you get in moving JVR at the TDL.

You wouldn't get that much trading Tanev to a team right now.

If he gets other assets with them and then flip them at the deadline, I am good with that. JVR + Tor 1st. Flip JVR at deadline for another 1st and a 2nd. That is ideal.

Was Hanzal a cap dump?
- A_SteamingLombardi

No, a TDL deal for a pending UFA.....same as it would be with JVR

Then they should trade JVR for a 1st and a 2nd add another 2nd for the D they want.
- A_SteamingLombardi

Ok, and who is that? There aren't many d available

Tanev would bring in more via trade, even with his ntc.
- Nucker101

Maybe if it was a 1 for 1 deal. The only way I make that trade is with JVR+

I was basing my opinion on the rumour Tanev for JVR 2/3 and a prospect. You should be able to move JVR for something similar to what Hanzal got. Combine those and it's more the what Tanev would return on his own.
