Because perceived value changes once the draft is over
Young defensemen are worth more than young forwards
So regardless of your depth...
What I'm saying is... choose what will become the best "value"
instead of best "available" at the time
That's generally a defenseman - jdfitz77
i want to think that at this point the two are almost connected but the value thing is misleading.
Good young defensemen are no doubt more valuable than good young forwards, particularly wingers. but the catch is that they still have to be good. nobodys going to give up full value for a d-man you take in the 2nd round if he goes to the ncaa and poops the bed just because you took him in the second round.

Well of course...
Im not suggesting we could trade Borgen for Drouin
But I think u know what I mean
Is the forward I draft at #8 (or wherever) still going to be more valuable than the defenseman ranked 15th (or whatever) a year later?
Edit: How is that improbable? He tried to do get the goalie moving so the puck would just slide through the 5-hole, and it worked to perfection. This is an improbable goal:

It was just for last season. They had some stupid selections on the list. Number two was the Miller diving save after heading to the bench

Ahh, I was going to say, there are a bunch of goals where a delayed penalty is called and the team scores on their own net. Eric Staal did it once, Pat Kane, I forget who on the Devils did it, and I really want to say it happened against us too, went our way for a change, but these all happened in the past few years.

I find it to be devilishly delightful that both Freakorenko and Zadorov are already 50% in the KHL and possibly soon to be both signed to KHL contracts.

I believe Zads already signed a deal with CSKA (could be wrong), but is still exploring an extension with COL. The article I saw said he was looking for more term, if that's the case, given the Avs defensive situation, they'll give him what he wants.
Edit: "One day after Mikhail Grigorenko signed to play in Russia, a report from Russia's Sport-Express on Saturday said Zadorov has an agreement to play with CSKA of the Kontinental Hockey League. It is the same team that signed Grigorenko."
