Never said you said they did. I was trying to downplay the role of the parent team in the development of college players. It should give some caution, though. If (big IF, I realize) Will Borgen suddenly becomes a standout d-man in his last year, he'd sorta be stupid to sign with the Sabres. Sorta making the Sabres stupid for spending a pick on him.

So, is the lesson here to only draft college draftees high? If later picks (3rd or later?) outperform their slot, why not wait to become a FA.

I have no fears about Casey. But if drafting a college guy in the 3-7th only results in: guy sucks, like his draft position. OR: I'm staying four years and then telling you guys to (frank) off...why waste the pick?

There's a very good chance that guy WAS rushed. I think you're right.

Although, he did get the chance to be told by Teddy Nolan to, "try harder!"... And he had his best year.

There seems to be a fine-ish line now. NHL teams should press hard to sign after sophomore seasons.
If they're not given assurance about the NHL squad after junior year, why not play out your college years and go wherever you want.

That's not a fair comparison. He can go to college, play less games, and focus more on getting stronger.

The drill I found interesting at D camp was the one where the Defenseman lines up side ways inside opposite blue line from his goal and at whistle skates backwards while forward skates full speed down the boards. D can't turn until his own blue line. very telling about a players ability to skate. Guhle looked effortless in the drill, Devante Stephens also did very well and Jacob Bryson also was impressive, Vojtech Budik and Anthony Florentino held their own as well. Brycen Martin looked better this year. I thought Wil Borgen struggled going backwards a little more than I would have hoped.

But Jack had a year of college if Casey had a year of college he would of been picked way higher
With his body being in shape
