He filed for arbitration today. He is likely seeking out of budget for the Hawks money. - Return of the Roar

I wonder if Tatar may be an option if the Wings cant work something out. I know JJ hinted at a buffalo winger, just saying tatar could be a viable plan b if the hawks get ltir relief |

Left wing. Solid 50 pt player on mediocre Det team. Still young. Paid 2.75. Sign me up |

Detroit's asking price for the likes of Tatar are outside what the Hawks can offer (a young, establish NHL d-man with potential to be top 4). If it wasn't, he'd have been a Hawk last year. |

Fortin is listed as injured, which is disappointing. - L_B_R
That is disappointing, but I'm sure Fortin will still get a long look at the Blackhawks training camp.
I'm looking forward to seeing how Knott, Sikura and Iacopelli do.
Edit: And Darren Raddysh too. |

Johnson 7 X 5 ends at 32, stamkos 8.5 X 8 ends at 33, hedmen 7.8 X 8 ends at 33, Kuckerov 3 x 4.7 ends at 25 and is still a RFA.
I know they have not won a ST but you compare those contracts to SEABS, TEOWS, KANE, AA. the only won you could even argue over is Stamkos and Kane. IE I would probably take Kane or stamkos plus the extra 2 mil.

You most certainly must give kudos to Stevie Y here, those numbers for those guys are ALL outstanding. |

I wonder what would be the reaction from this board for a GM of the Hawks who resigned all of these guys to a point where they'll all almost be done with their careers, having never won a cup, and also missing the playoffs completely.
Just curious |

Florida's lack of state tax - boilermaker100
They have very high excise and sales taxes. And if you're a rich athlete in Florida you'll be buying stuff.
Also, local taxes can be written off your federal form lowering your taxable income. You can't write off excise or sales taxes. So players in higher taxed states can lower their taxable income (thus tax burden) and also enjoy lower sales taxes. There are also contributions one can make, setting up foundations that can further lower your tax burden. There is a lot you can do to minimize your taxes. Another good thing is to start a business, an LLC. While you're getting your business up to speed, the investment costs can be written off and only when you're in the green do you start paying taxes. This is why you do see athletes, especially older ones or more savvy opening up car dealerships, restaurants, etc. This also explains why athletes buy gaudy, ridiculous monstrous homes that are 10k square feet with 8 bathrooms. Interest and mortgage deduction.
Guessing here, but Florida probably also taxes the poop out of their tourism industry, hotels, restaurants, etc. This is a neat way vacation states get tax revenue for services, by making visitors pay for it. Of course that allows a lower tax rate for actual residents, though they'd feel some burden when they went out to eat.
Oh yea, procreate. Get hitched. This helps on the tax bill too. but you pay bigly in other ways.
In the end it's a personal choice and taxes play only part of the role. Few people will live in an unsafe, poophole just because it's low taxed. I live where I live because of world class school system so I don't mind the heavy tax burden, a tax burden that actually helps me reduce my taxable income on the federal form. Of course, when my youngest graduates we'll move out of this county. I treat my local taxes as a "user fee" so to speak. |

Meh, AA market value. They could do worse for 4.5 million and that ends when hes 32.
They weren't not going to pay Toews and Kane. And there's a valid argument for both of them. Toews has seen a decline over the last 3 years but, again, they kind of had to pay him. And who knows, if they shake things up playing style a bit maybe that rejuvenates him. Hossa was done scoring at a high level until they got him in transition last year and his shooting percentage finally went the right way.
Seabs is kind of bad but, I think they thought they would do better than 2 first round exits in these last 2 years and were banking on that. Oops. Probably wouldn't get value for value anyway moving him at 30 unless they were to eat a deal coming the other way.
The big factors are the NMC's more than anything else.
Either way, probably another stoppage and round of "free" buyouts in two years. |

How many would trade Kane or Toews for Duchene & Landeskog? Now that would be a blockbuster. |

I wouldn't trade Kane alone for Duchene and Landeskog - let alone include Toews.
