While this may not be popular, I'd be OK with them signing iginla to a 1yr deal for 1mil or less
He wasn't bad when he got to LA. And I think he'd be good for 15-17g but also 100hits, net presence as well - but more importantly no need for rookies all over the ice again
Saad-Toews-Iggy - I think he'd fit well with these two
XXXX - AA - Kane - LW can be Jurco, Hartman, Fortin, etc.....audition away
Sharp-Schmaltz-Panik - this line can contribute offensively
Bouma-Dauphin-Wingels - Kero, Hartman, Jurco can all battle for this line
If Sharp, Iginla falter...then they can rotate guys up/down from Rockford. If they don't trade Hossa's cap hit then they can use the room for someone else while having good depth up front - PatShart
Did Iggy's legs go back in time to 2005? If so, yes. Otherwise, hard pass. Iggys legs are gone.

Few if any NHL teams will even think about trading a young defenseman like Slavin, let alone for an unproven kid like Debrincat.
But I'd give Debrincat every opportunity to succeed in a role, even if it is to just make their PP work. Nobody knows at this point whether he can play at the NHL level or not, but the track record says he's a point producer who can put the puck in the net kind of guy. That gets a lot of coaches and GM's very excited. Because they know all of the guys in the league who can't - like Rasmussen, Kruger, McLement, Zach Hyman etc. etc. - RickJ
Hell no would anyone do a Debrincat for Slavin even near straight up. Not today at least. That would have to be part of a bigger deal and that is only if the Hawks feel a kid like Slavin is a core type Dman.
I'm not advocating anything only that if the Hawks are indeed looking at reacquiring TVR maybe they can make it a bigger deal using Bebrincat as a piece that sees Slavin (an RFA in 2018) coming back. As you mention Debrincat is a point producer at every level and Carolina's biggest need is scoring.
I'm neutral on DeBrincat right now. That CHL Top Prospect Game was poor at best and he was overwhelmed at Prospect Camp last year from all accounts. But as you say the kid does nothing but put up numbers so he's intriguing for sure. |

He is too slow to keep up with 19 and 20. Hartman put up better numbers than iggy. Why would he be battling for a spot on the team? |

From what I've read and heard, Hayden entered Yale as a "Center", but was moved to the right side. The last 2 season's Hayden was at RW most of the time, and I assume that's where he'll play in the NHL. - ArlingtonRob
I know he played center in jrs the year before he went to Yale cuz I saw him. But thought he played center at Yale too but going back to his freshman year all the way to last year he's not listed as a center in any boxscore I can find. Always listed as a RW.
I just wanted to make sure I corrected myself so nobody walks away with bad info as I had been posting he was a centerman at Yale. |

Not only that, but the team is quite deep on the right side. I don't think Iggy can flank on the other side. He's strictly a bottom-six winger at this point, and the 'Hawks aren't in need of that. |

I don't get the difference between 2 and 3. Don't both add to $80.25?
Let's say Mario Hossa (Marian's younger and slightly faster brother...to work w JJ's Hawks offseason goals) were available today on the FA market and wanted $4m/year for a 4 year contract.
Option 2: Wait until day 2 of season, build roster close to cap, place Marian on LTIR, sign Mario and have about $1.25m of room for the 2017/18 season.
Option 3: Place Marian on LTIR today, sign Mario today, and have about $1.25m of room for 2017/18.
What am I missing? I think maybe what I'm missing is that in scenarion 3, Hawks go into day 1 of season at $79m ($75m roster plus Mario), they are locked in at that $79m, and that $1.25m of room isn't available during the season? Is that it? - Cmonalready
I think the difference is that off season/summer LTIR means you can't bank cap space in season for TDL acquisition. |

I've spent way too much time today reading through the NHL CBA to try and figure this out. I haven't. It seems like they are the same thing to me. But, I one important point seems to be that the replacements need to be maintained through the end of the season. I don't know if the exception to exceed the salary cap stays all year even if the team's current roster's cap hit drops due to sending down someone who makes $900k for someone that makes $700k. Use it or lose it? it seems unclear or maybe it is addressed someplace I haven't found yet. |

As far as the lines I'd like to see start the season...
Saad - Toews - Panik (Should be one of the better lines in the league next season)
Jurco - AA - Kane (Yes, Jurco. If given a chance, and he's motivated, I like it)
Sharp - Schmaltz - Hartman (Great scoring third line)
Hayden - Kero - Wingels (Big, young, tough to play against)
Keith - Murphy
Kempny - Seabrook
Forsling - Rutta
Crawford
Forsberg |

I hope Q goes with that third line and keeps it together. I think it's fair to assume Schmaltz and Hartman will improve, the question is by how much. That would leave the team with solid first and third lines. The second line is 2/3 the way there and there are a few options for the remaining 1/3.
I don't know if Jurco is the answer on the second line, but I wouldn't be surprised to see him get a look. |

Ek reporting Toronto is close to a "big defensive upgrade" of someone who was in a lot of allstar games and one of the top five defensemen in the Western Conference. Some people speculating it's Seabrook. I'd hate to see it given all of the other changes this offseason already. |

I love Seabrook but he's not one o of the top 5 defensemen in the West.
Anything is possible but I don't see Seabrook being dealt. I know his contract isn't good but this team needs Seabrook's leadership. |

I agree about needing the leadership.
I misremembered. here is the quote from Ek:
"The defender may be worth it though...The source described him as "A staple in the All-Star Game before the change in format...but one of the best d-men of the last 5 years in the Western Conference...""
could be Seabs. |

Can't remember Seabrook being in the ASG other than one year. Maybe they're talking about Doughty? |

Doughty makes much more sense than Seabrook. Doughty was talking about wanting to play in Toronto eventually. |

You're pretty much correct at the end. In your third scenario, if Hawks place Hossa on LTIR in the offseason, they are deemed to have already replaced him. They can start the season up to 5.25m above the 75m cap, but wherever they are when the season starts is locked in as their high point. In scenario two, they can add up to 5.25m of yearly cap hit at any point in the year.
However, in any scenario, you don't snowball cap space from someone being on the LTIR the way you do with normal cap space. |

PASS on TVR!
That ship has sailed. He's not what we need.
Let the young guys get some real quality playing time. Its time for Quennville to put on his big boy pants and do some coaching. Not just throwing old guys out there and expecting them to know what to do. |

I really like that L3 (it's one I proposed). I think that Sharp would be a great mentor for both of those young players. |

I'm all twisted up as far as Hayden but now feel relatively sure he was a RW all 4 yrs at Yale. I like the thought of a player having been a center cuz in theory he's handled more responsibility and shown IQ.........Just the same I hope the kid shows Q and the coaches enough skating to make the 23 man cuz this kid definitely has the size and will play the body. |

Actually, I am not the guy to do that. My uneducated guess is no they do not have to renew the LTIR year to year or it is just a formality, but that is not confirmed.

TORONTO SUN: Steve Simmons reports that, by his count, the Vegas Golden Knights “will have to move at least four NHL defenceman, maybe five, between now and the start of their first season. That’s a lot of dealing to do and a not a lot of time for GM George McPhee.”
All you had to do is mention TvR as opposed to one of the Golden Knight cast offs and the discussion here will swing to the hawks acquiring TvR (WHO WILL want a REAL Fat deal next year) becuase they are acquiring his brother (who will ALSO want a REAL fat deal) from the leafs because they "need" the space to make a play for Tavares asa UFA or resign Mathhews and his two little brothers at 11 million each.
I just don't see another one year move to TvR as winning a Cup, CAP stability or as a long term solution. - wiz1901
Not the biggest TVR fan myself, but neither of us are Q—who has guys he trusts (see: Rozsival, M and van Riemsdyk, T) who everyone else says "suck" and guys he doesn't trust (see: Daley, T.) who do pretty well elsewhere.
I am pretty sure if the tip I got was accurate—and the source is generally in the ballpark at least—then this would be a move to give Q some continuity, trust, comfort he needs on the blue line, not to appease the stats jockeys.

I asked specifically about this less than a week ago, was told only way Iginla joins the Hawks is as a camp PTO. So, 99% not happening. |
