COL was a disaster. He potted 6 in 19gms with LA and I think skated with Kopitar. I'm not saying give the guy a 3yr deal or anything, by a Sharp type of deal, I think he wouldn't be bad with Toews and Saad, allow them to move Panik down for depth scoring.

I think Iginla could get 15-20 with Toews and Saad while throwing his weight around and playing around the net/along the boards

If we are going the old man route, Jagr is the better player and bigger body.

I think Dauphin makes the Hawks as the #4 C easily.

So, what's taking the league so long on the Hossa decision? He either has this condition or he doesn't, and he can either play or he can't. Seems pretty cut and dried. I know they can't just take the Hawks' word for it but shouldn't take this long. It's putting the Hawks at a disadvantage for other moves they'd like to make.

Is the delay some sort of payback for when they signed him originally and how they structured that contract?

My take is that the NHL shows how moronic it really is. Other owners are complaining? Fn really? LTIR is a bargained for element of the contract that players AND OWNERS agreed upon. Hoss has doctors signing off on his condition. Its a total open/shut affair. Anyone who knows Hossa should realize he still has gas in the tank and would be playing if he could.

That's an extremely young lineup, but I hope they go that route. Let the kids take their lumps to get pro experience.

Well, that's not something I reported in any way. All I said was "high" prospect as part of a discussed package.
- John Jaeckel

Nope you sure didn't say that. I certainly didn't offer up ADB, but others did. I guess when you say "high prospect" he immediately comes to mind.

At any rate, I wouldn't move any number of players for 2 months of cap relief. Pokka, Vinnie, Svedberg, etc...sure, but hands off Hayden, Fortin and ADB. I also want to hang onto Lucas Carlsson and Forsling as well. Maybe Shalunov is the high prospect.

No TVR, never again. He's horrible in his own zone and the Hawks don't need another Q blankie (see M. Walker, Rozsival, Hendry, Sopel)

The Hawks are better off just LTIR'ing Hossa themselves when the season starts and just make a trade at that point.

The same (or similar) was said of another right-hand shooting left wing who put up 83 points in 56 games as an 18 year old in the OHL.

His name . . .

Jeremy . . . Morin.

Not suggesting they move ADB. Am suggesting some patience and perspective.

And I have another example if anyone needs it . . .

- John Jaeckel

I get what you are saying, and unless ADB has a phenomenal camp he should be destined for Rockford, but comparisons to Morin can only go so far. Yes Morin had the great quick release but the similarities kinda stop there.

ADB is among other things, a much better skater than Morin, a better passer and better vision, more willing to get to traffic areas and better along the boards. ADB has 3 solid OHL seasons under his belt, not just one. In addition even with his small size, ADB gets lit up with hits much less often. Morin was given chances and never really showed the willingness or ability to play a complete game, he has had the chance to perform with multiple organizations and can't capitalize.

Still plenty of questions for ADB including most importantly how well he can play 200 ft. and do so under duress, can he play/compete at at NHL speed/size, etc. Time will tell, but at this point he has to be one of the top prospects in the Hawks system and one with arguably a higher upside than Hino, Louis, and some of the others in house.

yep. And while I admit it's easier to trade now, once Hossa is on LTIR that cap problem goes away. And if by some chance he comes back he's a Blackhawk, exactly where he should be. If Hossa took a year off and got his skin thing straight I'd love to have him back, rested rejuvenated. The Hoss could play another 3 or 4 years in my view.

Now, he may be "done" from the standpoint the money is no longer worth it, he's got all the money he needs now and is looking for his long term health. But I would shed a tear to see 81 skate for US US US again.

Sure, but if you can't admit that it doesn't at least LOOK suspicious on the surface, then you've got the goggles on too tight.

Is he though? I am not saying he is or isn't. I just don't know. We are measuring ADB by the OHL and Morin by pro standards. Morin was fast enough in his junior career.

Hey, if the Hawks have not detemrined a better option at 2LW than Sharp or an out of position Schmaltz, and ADB (or Fortin) steps up and grabs the job, it will be because he earned it in every respect and that is only a good thing. If he doesn't, then I can pretty much assure you he is 1 or 2LW in Rockford, which will be where he belongs for the year likely.

Hey Fatty, it sounds a bit like you're describing Panarin.
- 6628

Or Patrick Sharp.

Big differences is that Sharp was a heck of a straight line skater and other than Kane, Panarin was probably the best skater on the team in terms of being able to get on his edges and move laterally.

That being said, if the kid can get to the soft areas he should be ok going forward. His release is stupid good. Defensively and chasing the puck maybe different if his speed is a hindrance. I haven't watched him play enough to tell you how good of a skater he is or isn't. However, Kane made the player formally known as Kris Versteeg look like an all star for 50 games and after those knee operations he don't move around so good so there's that.

Either way, let the kid get beat up and pushed around in the AHL for a bit and play on a crappy team for a few weeks then go from there.

Sharp will start the season in the top 6 until he gets injured, which wont take long, and then we can see what dinglecat is or isnt.

The timing appears suspicious. But the injury and the fact that he's fought it for 2 years are not.

To be fair, Morin suffered a few very significant concussions which more than anything seemed to have stunted his development. Which sucks for the player.

I want to say Morin won all of the strength and fitness testing when he was 17 or 18 with the US development group.

There is also the possibility, I guess, that the league makes the Hawks really suffer and endure the cap hit for a year to "determine Hossa's health at that future date."

Possible, but unlikely.

Trading DeBrincat is almost really a separate discussion though. Although I raised it rhetorically earlier connected to the Hossa thing, you'd obviously have to get more back than just cap space—unless you did not get the LTIR status, then it's $5.25 million a year and he may not be worth that, sorry, that would be a legit question.

Re: DeBrincat. I assume the scouts who tagged him are still there and the man (Bowman) who drafted him is there. I saw nothing from last year to indicate he will bust. Could he? Sure, he "could be" the next Morin, whatever. They have now seen him play without McDavid (who vouches for him) and they saw him play four games minus Strome (7 goals). His hands, shot, vision, and instincts are WORLD class level. The dude is also a competitor, fearless, does NOT play soft at all. To be that small and still do what he's doing indicates some special ability in this player. Certainly not ability you toss off in a scrap heap salary for 2 months trade, that's for sure.

I've seen the kid play in Erie...the only time he looks small is when there is a stoppage of play.

If he was 6'0 he'd have been a Top 5 pick. Hawks got lucky to get his talent when they did. Keep him, see if we can cash in with him.
