I still want someone to explain to me how the vanek trade is not even now
- GERBE!!!75PTS

Guhle
Lehner
Moulson
2 prospects

Compared to half of Ho-Sang?

Anything else?

Sabres traded Thomas Vanek for Matt Moulson a first round pick and a 2nd round pick

The Islanders then traded Vanek to Montreal for a 2nd round pick and a player they ended up waiving last year (Collberg)

Buffalo traded Moulson and McCormick for 2 2nds and Torey Mitchell (moved for a 7th rounder)

The Islanders then traded the montreal 2nd round pick plus their own 2nd round pick to Tampa to draft Ho-Sang.

So literally:

Guhle
Lehner
Moulson
2 prospects

for

1/2 of Josh Ho-Sang...

If you want to get into more details without Moulson signing back here the Sabres might have had to sign someone else that could have had a better season and therefore the Sabres wouldn't have Jack Eichel...

I will take where the Sabres are right now over the Islanders all day...

Is Pouliot going to be the 2nd or 3rd line LW? I'm guessing he will be the 2nd line LW unless a guy like Bailey or Baptiste can take his spot. Nylander probably needs another year before making it full time with the Sabres. He has decent speed so I could see a line with Pouliot-Eichel-Okposo being a strong trio. Hopefully, if he plays close to a full season a 40 point season wouldn't be out of the question.

How is it a win when you give up a first round pick ( one of the best drafts )
And you have molasses and his bad contract that we all hate
And 2 bust propects

The only thing great is guhle thats it

Thats great we got all those picks etc for vanek

But the point is we only have one thing great guhle that's it

NYI have ho sang ..

Thats like saying the browns and the rams etc made the best trades in NFL history
That goal is to get future players for the organization we only got guhle

Taking out the prospects:

You have a potential top 4 defensemen and a starting goaltender whether you like what was given up or not, it was used to get a starting young NHL goaltender.

Guhle and Lehner is better than one half of Ho-Sang.

Ho-Sang is a potential top 6 winger. Let's not act like he is this can't miss prospect there was a reason he wasn't drafted until the 20's.

And as Broads always says any time you can move a winger for a top 4 defensemen you do it all day.

Then you have to take into account that the 2nd round pick alone that the Islanders traded for Vanek didn't equal Ho-Sang, they had to move another 2nd round pick of theirs so breaking down the trade again:

Lehner, Guhle, Moulson, and 2 prospects for 1/2 of Josh Ho-Sang.

The Sabres win.

I love how you're neglecting the fact that Lehner is a Buffalo Sabre...

Like the trade or hate the trade...The Sabres got a starting goaltender out of the deal. One that is in the 10-15th range in the league that is not even at his prime yet.

Yes but we gave up a first line player or a top D ..

Robin is not worth 5m yet you ranked him past that

If Pouliot plays with Eichel,
he better get a minimum of 40pts

Hopefully they can get line combos sorted out in Training camp

As it stands now, the depth chart looks something like this:

LW. CENTERS RW.
Kane. Eichel. Reinhart.
Pouliot. O'Reilly. Okposo.
Moulson. Larsson. Pominville.
Girgensons(c/w)
Josefson(c/w)
Deslauriers(w)

So that's 12 forwards
Room for 1, maybe 2 more on the NHL roster

Tbd whether or not any of the kids are ready...
Guys like Bailey & Baptiste probably are, but it also makes more sense to have them play in Rochester if they aren't gonna be in the top9 here

Stats...you don't like it but regardless of who was passed on by he's still here.

You cannot just disregard him because you don't like what was given up and after that it still only equals HALF of Ho-Sang

Ok let's say we trade away robin or let him go do you still call it a win ?

Right now the Sabres don't trust robin to give him a long term deal
we just drafted A goaltender in the 2nd round and we moved picks to save another one

I think the way Gerbe looks at the trade,
is what "core" pieces were acquired by each side

We got Guhle
They got HoSang

Is Lehner a core player for us?
Maybe, maybe not

Why are u guys even debating the trade still?

Jesus Christ. You don't get to just write off most of a trade because you don't like it. We got x pieces in that trade they got y.

"1/2" of HoSang?
You're really trying to hard
No one knows what that additional pick they gave up to get him is gonna turn out to be
If the player never amounts to anything,
then it doesn't matter if they gave up the extra pick or not

And...
Who cares anyways?

We're talking about now

Back then all of us are like easy win 100% ( now you look at all the stuff we received and it's not very good )

Just like ROR it's a win for us now but back then it was a tie imo

The 1/2 of Ho-Sang is relevant. Had the pick they got Vanek been the pick used to draft Ho-Sang I would agree but here they had to move an additional high second round pick to get his so it does play into account here.

Who cares? 95 percent of the conversation here doesn't matter if you didn't care why comment?

Nobody thought it was a tie back then. We just though it was closer
