Nobody here believes Tanev is worth (Nylander, 1st, prospect). A lot of guys here have made ridicilous proposals like that, as a running joke. You're not supposed to take it seriously Leaf fans.
Continue on talking about Manson in ANA. A player that BM will never trade. He didn't trade Theodore just to trade away Manson a month later. |

Tanev isn't worth Nylander alone. |

If Hamonic gets a 1st and 2 2nds I think Tanev gets either the same or a tad less.
1st (mid to late) and good prospect. Not a great prospect. But who knows really? JB got Dahlen for Burrows. We were thinking a 3rd or 4th. |

Desperation skews any deal. I think JB exploited OTT who wanted to make a splash in the playoffs, hardly different than Hall-Larsson trade.
I think Hamonic is better than Larsson, under a better contract, but 1st and 2 seconds is not equivalent to Taylor Hall either.
I do think a mid round 1st would be great, add in a prospect and I'd be happy

I would be ecstatic if Tanev got us a couple 2nd's and a prospect like Cirelli/Stephens/Holden from Tampa.
I just don't see him being moved this off-season.
It would help TBL get back into playoffs and Cup contention, hopefully knocking TML back into their rightful place of just missing playoffs. |

Hjalmarsson is nearly the identical player Tanev is, and was basically sold for pennies.

Good comparison.
If/when Tanev gets traded, a return of a decent prospect and a nhl calibre defenseman would be fine by me as long as they are under 24 years old. |

that would be ideal. I personally don't think Tanev gets traded anyway, but if he does, I think most will be very disappointed at the return. |

Different situation though, Chicago was/still is in a cap problem, nobody is going to help them. |

That's not true at all - they got Murphy who was a 1st rounder and who Chicago believes is a great prospect that needs proper guidance, and that he has more potential. He didnt do to bad considering the fact that he's played his first 3 seasons for possibly the worst franchise in NHL history. And Daulphin, who split his year in the NHL/AHL, but put up 28pts in 38gms, and was a high 2nd rounder. Future, 3rd line center. However, a lot of people believe the hawks should've got more, but also factor in they were trading from a cap shedding place of weakness, and Arizona fleeced them a bit due to that. |

Connor Murphy being a former 1st rounder, to me, is irrelevant. Our team is loaded with former 1st rounders now lol. Murphy (a solid 2nd or third pairing D-man) and a prospect (which I think would be fair to say of Daulphin) is hardly the return you think you would see for a player like Hjalmarsson (who I believe was playing top pairing minutes with Keith for the last 2 seasons?). I don't think Chicago did very well in this trade, even with their cap situation. |

Then why did a dude who can't play defense to save his life and is only a year younger get the haul he did in Travis Hamonic? |

no idea. I don't understand the Hamonic hype at all. If Jim Benning could have fetched half of what Canucks fans on this site were hoping/expecting, he would have done it already though. |

Except for those three Stanley cup rings. Funny enough, Hjalmarsson is one of only seven Blackhawk players to be part of the 2010, 2013, and 2015 Stanley Cup victories.
Hjalmarsson is 3 years older than Tanev and makes about half million more a season. If he was sold for pennies then I hope canucks were snooping around that deal. |

Tanev is worth more to us than most teams. Toronto is a perfect fitnfor JVR and a 2nd or 3rd. Wed have to be ablentonsign JVR first though. |

Perhaps statistically but Tanev is younger and has a great contract. Moreover, let's assess how Chicago fair's in Hammers absence before concluding either guys worth.
In all seriousness, if the offers are in the range of a mid to late 1st, then I hope Benning keeps him around. Tanev has the skill and youth to be a mainstay throughout the rebuild and perhaps even into competitiveness.
If Toronto's calling, take no less than Liljegren. We don't need wingers and their pick will likely be mid-range to late. |

I put a lot of weight is franchise lore and its effect on player's attitudes. Storied teams like Montreal, Detroit, Chicago, Pitts, and NY Rangers can take a reclamation project and snap them back to their potential just from the sheer weight of the franchises history. Having a strong team leader or management (Lamoriello as an example) can also have a really positive effect on some players.
Then there's players like Avery and Kassian that throw my theory out the window... |
