After a little back reading and deciding to skip the rest when it comes to Lehner:
The Sabres get to pick the term when it comes to arbitration. Meaning they will elect for the 1 year deal so when that contract expires Lehner is still a RFA and they control his rights.
If it is a 2 year deal that would take him to UFA status. If the Sabres are unsure of what they have in him there is no way they don't do a 1 year deal. My guess is that is what is holding up his contract to begin with.
I still think he gets between $4.5-$5.5 in arbitration but I wouldn't be surprised if it is in the $5.5-$6 million range.
1 year prove it deal, sink or swim. |

If he really wants 2 years, he's likely going to have to come down on salary (celery). Not by a significant margin, but maybe from $5 to $4.5.

This is what I have been saying all along. Why give him 2 years and risk UFA? Give him 1, see how he does, if he kicks ass then we have exclusive negotiation rights for a LTD. If we sign him 2 years, he is a pending UFA, he kicks ass we will absolutely get out bid by someone else. Makes way more sense to sign him to one year. I don't want to pay him more than 4.5-5 but if he is awarded 6 so be it for 1 year.

Peel and cube two large cucumbers
Slice thin 1/2 a purple onion
1 Tablespoon kosher sale
1.5 cups Mayonnaise (Hellman's, for christ's sake, you (frank)ing heathens)
2 Tablespoons vinegar
1 tablespoon sugar
garlic, dill, and pepper to taste
Put the cuke cubes in a pasta drainer and sprinkle on the salt - let it rest for an hour or so in the sink - this will draw out much of the excess liquid.
Afterwards, in a large bowl, mix it all together and refrigerate for 2 hours before serving.
SUMMER CUCUMBER SALAD! <--------- This is some serious business.
