Not a good time to live in BC forests right now. - bloatedmosquito
I have a couple buddies who have put their name on a list to go volunteer against the fires. Definitely need some rain in the next little bit to help calm them down. Scary stuff |

to be honest, I wouldn't mind signing Dwight king to a minimum 1 year contract, and have Gaunce go to Utica. King as a potential trade piece come TDL. Gaunce does not deserve to be in the show. King - Burmistrov - Dorsett (while it is an ugly line), is much better than Dorsett - Chaput - Gaunce - Codes1087

Seemed to work for Thornton - Campbell - Paille though. Burmistrov isn't slow, Dorsett is average. Gaunce/Chaput/King are all about the same lol |

posters on here don't like gaunce lol, hes just finding his way from a scorer in junior to a defensive checking forward and hes made strides and hes still a young guy and I like him and I think he keeps improving and then the tune changes here lol. |

I see a modern fourth line to more of a fore-checking line than just a checking line.
Fourth line players have to get deep quick, disrupt possession, and stop the clean zone breakouts. Hopefully they can hit some bodies and score a goal or two in the process. If they can keep the opposing team pinned in their own zone for their shift then they have done their job IMO. |

he wasn't really a scorer in Junior though.. Jonah Gadjovich and Palmu have already scored more in their last junior season than Gaunce's best goal scoring junior season. Gaunce still needs time in the AHL. Let him develop his offense with some kids that can actually score, as opposed to what he has had the last few seasons down there. |

I am assuming you mean when they take Guance to arbitration? Guance is basically a Guance so we want to pay him appropriately. He hasn't scored in 15 months just like Guance so what exactly are we paying him for? |

Interesting article on Demer's and why he may have not waived. Considering he went from Dallas to Florida finances may have played a big role in his NTC options. - CanuckDon

So much for salary-capped league parity. - we_are_all_canucks
I dont think its as big of an issue, I remember reading a couple years ago that players own multiple properties and would claim it as their main residence for the break. Kessel owned a piece of property in Florida and when his offseason bonus came it, it was taxed less
EDIT: Found the story, fairly interesting read
Kessel makes $10 million this season. But $4.5 million of that is in the form of a signing bonus. While much of Kessel's $5.5 million salary this season is taxed at the top Canadian rate of 49.6 per cent, his signing bonus is taxed at 15 per cent by Revenue Canada because he's a non-resident for tax purposes (The 15 per cent is the rate Canada and the U.S. agreed to on their cross-border tax treaty).
Kessel also pays federal tax in the U.S. on his income, but since he lives in Florida during the off-season, doesn't have to worry about state tax. "If Kessel got his entire $10 million straight up, he'd be destroyed - he'd lose half his salary," Raiola explained. "When you have U.S. players, the smart agents try to load up at least one third of their salaries as a signing bonus. That's about the limit of what they can do because Revenue Canada doesn't like them doing more than that."

Gaunce doesn't have arbitration rights. All his agent did was push the qualifying offer acceptances date to August. In hopes they pay enough with Chaput and Boucher that he can negotiate similar. Probably hoping for a one way deal or higher base on AHL pay so his time in Utica is more comfortable. |
