I thought the debate was for the rebuild and development. As if he was a prospect worth keeping in the NHL or waived. So one of the other reclamation players or prospects can take his roster spot.

Like no one expected it to be the Sens who were one goal away from Cup final. The usual pundits went with their regular season predictions but really waffled making the call on the playoffs. Below is a just for FUN TAKE, that has some basis on past NHL events. Plus how the expected outcomes can change with factors beyond appearance on paper.

Premise first, that common sense is that Canucks will finish bottom 5 in the NHL. Realistically 31st if you factor in expected injuries and production. However, playing, the EK, what if game, there are factors beyond which roster is best. You know surprises and the unexpected.

Oilers in battle of Alberta playoff edition lose to Flames with LD injury in 1st round. This was preceded by battle of Canadian bragging rights for most exciting team. Kadri elbows Mcdavid who suffers season ending concussion.

Flames lose to Ducks again but in 2nd round after beating Oilers. They can't avoid the sweep and after game 4 fire their coach and GM.

Leafs get beaten out by Sens for last WC playoff spot in the East. Kadri was suspended for 15 games for McDavid elbowing. No D no success.

Sens play the Pens in first round and lose game 7 in 3rd OT. Turris goes UFA.

Habs lose Price to groin injury for half the season after collision with new Pen Enforcer. He was crashing the net for Crosby cross crease feed. Habs lose to much ground and miss playoffs one spot behind Leafs.

Jets make massive 5 player deal before TDL to change culture of team. Coach can't figure out team chemistry still. So gets fired for losing out last WC spot on last game of season.

Coach Green has Torts like effect a la CBJ. Every Canuck player has career year except for injured Sedins. Usual TDL sell off occurs. But prospects develop and make the team post TDL to add speed and scoring. This new blood propels team to make final Western WC spot on last game of season. In 1st round they slay the dragon in game 7 OT by goal from rookie. In 2nd round luck runs out. Except for Sedin's career ending injuries in losing game 6.
