I think he did well for the tight position he was in. But I am not convinced he is out of the woods yet. I was among a few others that thought FLA locked in a solid core that a year later has been dismantled.
I think they will regret the Drouin move long term and several of the large contracts handed out, especially if they fall short of a Cup - WhiteLie
They needed to move one player and made their choice. i think they probably maximised their return by moving the frenche to Mtl.
Of course he might turn out to be a star, but yea, if they win a cup, all will be forgotten and if they don't, i reckon a few of those contracts will be flipped |

Agreed, if I was a Lightning fan I would at least appreciate the decisive nature of the deal. Even though I think Drouin will be a star, taking a solid offer (because of the risk) and proceeding to build is a positive for the organization. Sitting around waiting only makes situations worse IMO |

We have enough roster players at every position, I understand spending to the cap, and maybe acquiring a cheap UFA with the intention of flipping at TDL, but the Canucks first priority should be getting Horvat signed. 8 million left, not saying he will cost that much, but you don't want to be investing cap into Jagr without Horvat signed. - Codes1087
Just heard Liam Maguire's take on Jager. He said he won't be able to help any team especially a playoff team. Guess that kills the flip status. But he sees no harm making room for Jager to play on Canucks as a side show for interest.
I believe how things are going they will complete signing their RFA's before looking at Horvat. But even after all that there seems to be plenty cap $$ for a 1yr flip player. |

Roster wise they would have to make room. Candidates to bump....Gaunce, Chaput, Megna, Rodin, Boucher and DD. I'd rather they bump and play prospects who earn a spot. But the flip player is a doldrum topic while free agents exist on the cheap before camp. |

After a good draft & prospect pool has deepened & 4 UFA signings i think its obvious that we r done. I figure TG will play an aggressive skating game & players sit if not playing well. We will not be rolling out 4 lines unless all r rolling. Competition for spots & playing time is important not plugs for audition. |

yup.
Unless a trade presents itself, i think we're done too.
Unless....Matt Duchene for Tanev, JV and Sutter.
Allows the prophent VT to have his prediction come true and bump Bo to 3rd line.
Sedin/Sedin/Granlund
LE/Duchene/Brock
Sven/Bo/Gagner
Burmy/Gaunce/DD
sign Franson to mutli year deal.

I agree, the pool is deeper and the top end talent that is missing wont be acquired by mid-summer UFA's getting flipped at TDL. Spots are up for battle |

The 5 UFA's counting goalie Nilsson can be broken down as 3 stop gaps and 2 reclamation projects. No "flip" players among them. Usually "flip" players are taken later in free agency, on the cheap, to pump and dump.
Like you said there will be competition for roster spots. We know there will be cap room. So here's the questions on moves:
1)Do Canucks want to maximize cap room to add to prospect pool on a "flip" signing?
2)Should Canucks keep more spots open for prospects to earn them over "depth" players who have no "flip" value? |

1) the ufa pool is dog meat & a waste of a roster spot.
2) prospect pool is fine & gets better next draft. 1 lowly extra pick is nothing. |

You can write the obituaries for the free agents and tell extra pick Gadjovich to pack it in then. |

Not buying him out and keeping on roster was a pump and dump.

So you're saying he wasnt acquired mid-summer by the Canucks when everyone else had an equal chance to acquire him? Ok so then the Burrows-Dahlen must not have been relevant to my original post |

Your arguments say that there is nothing to gain. Not allowing for options. Explaining that there are options with Canuck Burr example of pump and dump. Now with cap room are there any free agents this summer that can do same?
Gave alternative to keep roster spots for prospects to earn over depth or reclamation players. It's a choice between what's needed more now, prospect pool adds or prospect development room. |
