What part of rebuild are we not understanding? - thundachunk
The stupid part, I guess.
Replace a player in their early 20's for a 37 veteran.
Mentoring!! |

Coming into camp we have more young talent and healthy competition than we have had since 2010. I am actually excited to see who wins a job and who loses theirs. Bringing in old horses like Beauchamin make absolutely no sense. I don't even like the Del Zotto signing. |

The part where every UFA is coveted and everyone needs to be moved out for past their prime players. So trade Hutton for a 5th rounder and sign Doan to 3yrs x 4.5 per. |

The part where Vet's go for 2nds at the deadline and players like Hutton go for 3rds.
You talk about rebuild well a 2nd and a 3rd in next seasons draft is better then a 3rd.
Unfortunately not everyone player in there early 20's makes it through a rebuild. |

Let's just sign the Sedins to a lifetime contract (i.e. extend them every 8 years for 8 years) until they die on the ice as 120 year olds, we can bury them underneath center ice as good luck charms for when we finally win the Stanley Cup for the first time in 2070 against the Mars Polar Stars of the Intergalactic League (aliens are allowed to play due to a case in the United Federation of Planets Humanoid Right Court for Sport) |

Go ahead.
Just when I thought things couldn't get anymore retarded, we are now moving Hutton to make room for a 37 year old who will somehow fetch a 2nd round pick at the TDL.
Holy f*ck!!! |

Comparing a second and a third at the deadline is not a good argument.
You still need a buyer. |

I don't think Ben's career is going to start to take off anytime soon. He's going to remain a good 5 D for most of his career. Those types are less expensive then a vet D man. - manvanfan
It wouldn't hurt Hutton to spend some time in Utica this season so that makes room for a vet coming in. And no we don't need to trade Hutton…calm down people... |

He has to clear waivers.
He would be scooped up in a heartbeat. |

If there are no interested teams today, how are you going to get any picks at the TDL. Teams want players that will contribute to the playoff run not guys with walkers. We have the Sedins for that, a whole team of geriatrics won't be entertaining hockey. |

Deadline day hasn't been very productive for a lot of teams in many years. |

Players that have been available as a UFA for over 3 weeks are of great value.

Well Benning should stock up on aging vets in case that trend changes, you know, be ahead of the curve. |

Not to mention... most playoff teams are in cap hell at this point, at least those who have a legit shot at going deep. Why would they take on a Beauchemin at TDL and give up a pick that would give them a player on ELC going forward that could help their cap problems when Beauchemin facing retirement is going to want a LOT of money upfront on a 1 year deal to maximize his earning potential. For what he does and how bad he was in Colorado, I don't see any legit playoff team or contender wanting to do that. Especially when they're either looking at having to dump money because they'll be unable to sign their star players or surround those star players with productive depth (of which Beauchemin is NOT) |

There are teams interested.
Old D
Johnny Oduya - Prospects and conditional 4th
Ron Hainsey - prospect and 2nd
Young D
Michael Stone - 3rd and conditional 5th
Jordie Benn - 4th and a plug D
Nikita Nesterov - AHL D and a 6th
Justin Schultz was traded for a 3rd a couple years back. Ron Hainsey, Trevor Daley and Ian Cole played more 5v5 minutes then Schultz did during the playoffs.
Nathan Beaulieu traded to Buff for a 3rd has a pretty equal stat comparison to Ben Hutton.

Beauchemin would easily make this club. Cup winner and a decent mentor for Stecher. He can play tough hockey too when required. He's still good for 20-30 pts a year…don't see an issue bringing him in if cheap. - LordHumungous
it would have to be a 1 yr max then |
