Swedens crazy good. I don't know know how they do it or who they have teaching their developmental leagues, but their defence factory is impressive
Even in a best on best men's, I seriously think they have a better defence than Canada.
Karlsson
Hedman
Oel
As their top 3!?
Stalman, lindholm, klefbom, klingberg etc etc - HB77

I dunno.
Take out a couple of canadas players and the field evens out. It's the superstars we put on the 3rd pair that does it imo.
Let alone a roster that isn't even all that much better than anyone's else's to begin with and one extra player isn't gonna slam dunk it for Canada
No argument that in a best in best MENS tourney, Canada is significantly superior. But anything less than a team with Bergeron on the 4th line and we aren't.
Are we even ever far better in the juniors anymore ? - HB77

So KHL and Swedish Elite League players will be there? If so, it's Sweden vs. Russia in the finals. Finland will compete well too. Then you have the high-level Czechs and Slovaks who play on that side of the Atlantic too. Won't that just be great for North American hockey? This is a joke, right? - yzermaneely

having said that, 0-2 in the playoffs over 10 seasons...no bueno |

That's just it. You're top end at pretty much every position is comparable to anyone.
Mcdonagh, suter, maybe Faulk is pretty damn good and certainly enough to get it done in a short tourney comparison wise.
But it's your depth where you fall abit short.
Running out, I dunno, guys like niskanen or even shattenkirk against Canada's 3rd of pietrangelo or subban is skewed in the Canucks favour for sure
Same goes (and maybe even more so) your depth up front on those bottom 6 when Canada's rollin lines of toews and Bergeron
But top end of Kane, pavelski, gaudreau etc is lethal |

i wouldn't say thats when the rebuild started.. they still had hope that pommer, roy and vanek could carry this team after that.. i would say it was more like when pommer was traded.. but thats only because the ownership/gm wouldn't let go |

nope
and america falls short on the bottom 2 lines and their top line is never as good as other decent teams
stars need to line up perfect and near flawless goaltending for usa to compete with the big boys
