When Bo was drafted the pundits said his ceiling was a good 3C. His skating and offensive game wasn't good enough for top 6. Seems we have come full circle. Bo will just push himself and prove what Bo can do not what he can't do. |

I NEVER SAID HE'D BE A GREAT ELITE 3LC!!! I said ideally on a championship team he'd be the 3C because we'd be lucky enough to get that Crosby/Malkin ahead of him! Not that he's DESTINED to JUST be a 3C... Great, so he has top third 2C numbers... for three quarters of a season.
You know what, I give up, you guys want to give him a Kopitar-like deal (closest comparison I can make based upon dollars/term/position) when he's had just one good season and couldn't be consistent enough offensively to score in the latter half of the season, the point when your team is ready to fight to make the playoffs, you want your 1C and 2C to be scoring at better than his seasonal average. I just think that's asking for trouble down the line.
I personally wouldn't build the team around him, but I'm not a GM, what do I know. I just look around the league and what the trends are and I look at our team and I ask myself can we be a contender with Bo being our centerpiece center. I say no, you guys say yes, fair enough. I'll agree to disagree with you and I'll happily eat my words if it turns out the way you say, I just don't see it and I just don't think we can win if we're building our team around him. - DariusKnight
So if he'd not broken down for a third of the season he would have had 33 percent more points and would have broken 70 points....
I don't assume he's 1lc... but i duo think he's going to be a really good 2lc.
Of we get two centers better then Bo then we have to trade one of the three..... that's just how it'll work. |

Just to play devils advocate - Kopitars second salary was 6.8X7 and that was coming off his ELC, after scoring 61, 77, 66pts. In his 6th year (he was 24) he led the Kings to the cup, with Mike Richards being the 2C and ended up with 44pts, UNTIL they traded for Carter at the deadline and he effectively became the 2C, they had guys like Brown, Williams, Penner (Doughty) rounding out the top 6 with a hot goalie. Winning cups comes in all shapes and sizes.
I'm not saying Bo should make anywhere near 6.8X7, cus he's not as good as Kopitar, nor do I think he'll ever be. Plus thats absurd $$
ps. f&%k the Kings. and their horrific cap hell they currently live in.
I would hope Horvats contract should be somewhere in the realm of Drouins or Trochecks, as they are the most similar - but who knows. I think max would be 5.5X6years - hopefully more like 5.2$X6 |

It's reasonable to say that the Canucks are on opening offer grounds. Probably with modest term and $$. Bo's agency group is taking the we'll get back to you approach. Like is there leverage on looking at how the market keeps developing with recent signings.
Bo's group wants to come back with big $$ long term on comparables. If the gap seems to big to close then they will settle on a bridge before season starts. I would think what you proposed they could live with. But we don't know actual numbers. No doubt there will be disagreement over the result. |

Is there really a big difference in 6 mil or 6.8 mil. They are both crazy dollars to pay Bo

I've been there in July but just for conventions so we were inside all day, the hottest I remember was 117. I much rather the trade shows in January. |

We don't know who the Canucks will be able to draft in top rounds in the future. Equally we don't know the ceilings of our top young players. Development is funny that way.
It would be great to have a center rich problem where some will play wing even in the top 6. But not at the expense of not having a top caliber D. So balance is what a team should strive for when building to be compete for the Cup. |

I see your point, but just consider that in 2-4 years when he's developed even more and has even better players with him, why isn't conceivable to expect him to score 80 points and lead the team as the #1C? He's improved by from 25-40-52 in each year, so thats .36, .48,.64 PPG - guys that have led their teams to SFC, like Johanson, Forsberg, Couture, Palvelski, Turris, Hoffman had pretty much the exact same trajectory as Bo, so i just don't understand why you feel he has a limit? I don't think we've come close to seeing his full potential, especially if/when he gets some better teammates. - Brooks_Light
I see BO as a 65-70pt C getting PP time & the Rough minutes.
I detest comparisons but anyways he is Trottier like in build & smarts.
Once he gets 2 wingers of talent then his potential will occur.
Saying he is a shoot 1st is incorrect at this time when Sven was developed & RW really not filled til BB arrived. Say keeping those 3 together & BO will get 60+ nextvyear. |

We do know we will be drafting top 10 for at least the next three years. You can also be sure it will be a center or a top Dman .
You are right that you don't know how our prospects are going to turn out so why would you want to pay them top money when you don't really know what you have? |
