Dude my god.

Didn't you JUST use Joe Thornton as a comparison?

So if Versteeg is a really good passer, isn't that what he's "known for" and that's how he should be judged?

He's not though
He's mediocre at everything

Just ignore him, he's not worth the time and seems to always trying to start an argument or get under peoples skin. I can't stand people like that and have realized it's better not to engage, because it's a battle that can not be won. You're better off talking to a wall, or air lol.

But you're right. So many people complain that we need a sniper and a finisher, yet want to trade Kane, or let him walk without a replacement plan. Then, they will try and down play how valuable he is by attacking his character, saying he's too 1 dimensional, ect. But those are most likely people who don't understand hockey very well, and just how special and rare his style of play and talent really is. A 25 year old that can absolutely fly, brings physicality, can score 5 on 5, and actually put fear onto the other team. Not many players have those attributes. Now is he a perfect player? Not even close. And should he deserve a raise? Well if it were up to me I wouldn't give it to him, but such is the NHL life for UFAs. Teams have most of the leverage for the first 7 years, then the player gets it when they hit UFA status. That's what all players look forward to. And it's the reason he will make more than most of the RFAs that just signed (Arvidsson, Gaudreau, ect).

Such a rare special breed of hockey player that's played in numerous All Star games and Olympics. So many playoff appearances too.

Jason Pominville in his prime didn't get this amount of ego stroking and he was twice the player

Yet produces similarly to him.

Maybe they are just both more towards the mediocre side.

.....and Kane is better than Versteeg.

Kane is mediocre at assists... actually, less than mediocre
And he takes too many penalties

Scoring, forchecking, physical play, SPEED, penalty killing, work on the boards...
ALL aspects of his game that bring value to our team

Yet u NEVER talk about ANY of that
ONLY that he's a 40point player in which to downplay his attributes

U know u do
Whether u can admit it or not is on u

I'm not talking about his attributes. We all know what those are.

I'm talking about his results. If his attributes don't lead to greater results than who gives a flying (frank) about them?

Kane is a decent 2nd line player. I like that he's here, and if he was signed for the next three years we wouldn't have this discussion.

In a perfect world he's on our 3rd line when we are able to roll 3 solid scoring lines

Because not all his attributes are quantified when u describe him as a 40point player

And the bold part is BULLSH!T
You haven't just started talking about Kane a week ago
This has been going on since DAY ONE

The whole discussion is based on us paying him 6 mil *going forward*

His attributes mean nothing. He's been in the league 8 years. His results are what matter. Period.

I'm basing my opinion of him based on those results.

There are very few wingers who I'd pay 6 mil per season. Like maybe 25. Kane isn't one

Yes, I hate him because I wouldn't give him a big deal.

I hate the trade. Hated the GM who made it. Hate the guy (as a player) who we got with him. But I don't hate what Kane is as a player. He's a top 6 forward

Kane would be very valuable at the deadline, teams want players like him going into the playoffs. If were in position to make the playoffs I think we keep him, if not I think we trade him at the deadline.
