Honest question.

Rank these players in terms of importance to this franchise's future (not just this year)

Eichel
Kane
ROR
Reinhart
Okposo
Middestadt
Nylander

Per Garth-

Buffalo Sabres forward Evander Kane went live on his Instagram account ... Kane said he was spending a few days with friends at the cottage in The Muskokas, two plus hours north of Toronto. EKane said that he sees Eichel scoring 120 points next season. Kane said forty of the points would come from assists on EK9's 40 goals scored.

Sounds like Kane is in the brown liquor.

Would you take Kane at 6 years for 6.5 mil? Right when we trade him we will need production back instantly and not sure how long until the kids are ready to come up. Lots of variables

yeah he's only a 40 point scorer so IDK why he thinks he can score 40 goals.... Definitely on the white powder with Bogo

if it was a case where we are looking at each player for the next 7 years

I think the last 4 can be flip flopped any given week

the foundation is eichel, ror and middestadt

There is a lot more to hockey than putting up "points" You say Pominville was twice the player Kane is in his prime, yet who is comparing them? You are to make your point seem relevant.

They are completely different type of players. I happen to like Pommer, but with a fairly talented team, how much winning did he do? Kane has been on terrible teams with even worse coaching.

So tell us, what is your plan at LW if you think so lowly of Kane?

Again, hockey is more than putting up points, so get off your "he's a 40 point player" nonsense, because he does MUCH more than score. Maybe if you knew anything about hockey you would understand this; instead, you just run your mouth and often sound ignorant.

Kane is a good player, I don't Boards is disputing that, what he is saying, IMO is that Kane's level of production and on ice contributions do not equal paying him 6+ mill over a long term deal. Kane is a fast skating power forward that can hit and put the puck in the net, Kane is also injury prone and inconsistent. I agree that 25 5 on 5 goals is very important to a team lacking in 5 on 5 production.
That doesn't mean we need to panic and sign him to a massive contract.
If I said player x will play between 60-65 gamers a year and put up 25 goals and about 45-50 points, and I'm gonna pay him 6.5 over 6 years, that's crazy.
If I have to shell out that kind of money, I want someone with a more complete game than just 25 ish goals a year.
If I'm paying a one dimensional scorer 6+ he better put up 40 or so goals a year.

Personally I think Kane is worth around Arvidsson money (4.25 AAV) but if we wants more money and a long term deal he is on his way out. Short term deal would work perfectly for the sabres though so they could trade him once the kids are ready to play

So I'm bored and my math sucks but here's what I did in the last 20 minutes.

Twelve players who scored nearly the same number of goals as Kane - six on either side (above, below) and their Average salaries:

Burns $8M
Pavelski 6M
JVR $5M
Drais $832K
EStaal $3.5M
Kane $6M
Tavares $6M
Kreider $4.6M
Marleau $6.25M
Turris $3.5M
Grabner $1.65M
Maroon $2M

If my math is right that suggests that the average salary of these 12 players is around $4.44M. Even if you throw out Burns and Draisaitl to eliminate anomalies, the average is $4.45. So if we're only going to analyze 28 goals, it looks like there is a way to get that kind of production cheaper. More specifically, only 5 of the 12 who produce at or around that rate have as big or larger salary as Kane.

I just wonder where the production is available in the next 12 months, and how lucky we have to be to find it.

Im also guessing that 99% of those player (not sure about Maroon) can rack up more than 15 assists to go along with their 26 goals.

1. Microwave Chicken Wings
2. Comic Books
3. Scalding hot hockey takes
4. plague inducing freezer rot
5. having a job "on his own time"
6. Month long trips to the Keys and apartment in LA, all on daddy's dime
7. Insight into the afterlife and the multiverse.

Based on 1 - 6, I'd say he ought to focus on the here and now before he starts worrying about more complicated poop like Number 7.
