It is what junior is known for...

Yea, its not like Duclair has ever had a 20/20 season or anything like that yet.

Kane age 25 - one 20/20 season.
Dulclair Age 21 - one 20/20 season.

Duclair cost controlled for 4 more years.

Yeah but Duclair has played 2.5 seasons. The 20 goal season could have been an aberration. I think we could do better than Duclair for Kane

The guy scored 5 goals last season FIVE (four letters)

He had 15 points.

He had one big year in juniors.

I am not moving Kane for him and a pick unless its a 1st and even then I am not sure if I would

All things equal, Duclair was in the same situations last year as in his rookie campaign. In fact, his shot attempts per game actually marginally increased. Everything was identical until the 21-year-old actually let a shot go. Plain and simple, Duclair could not get shots by NHL goalies. Yes, goalies were wise to his shooting tendencies, but those donā€™t explain a 65 percent decrease in shots that go in the net.

They also donā€™t excuse his dreadful power play output. In 15-16, Duclair scored 8 man-advantage goals. Last year: ZERO. Not one. Even if teams were doing a good job keeping him out of dangerous goal-scoring areas at even strength, he would have found the space with his team a man up.

For some reason, Duclair just could not find a way to beat goalies with his shot. Even of the goals he did score, several of them were from tapping in a puck during a goal-front scramble, not exactly the mark of a sniper.

Maybe it was a fluke of a season and Duclair will get his shooting percentage back up to league-leading standards next year. Maybe he will come back and be a 20+ goal scorer again to pair with Domi on Arizonaā€™s top line.

Or, maybe it was his rookie year that was the fluke, and last year was the real Anthony Duclair, becoming just the latest in a long line of ā€œpromising goal scorersā€ whose production dries up in the desert.

I object to the assumption that we can only trade Kane for another black guy.

After scoring 5 last year? That's a bold prediction
- jcragcrumple

Have you seen him play jw ? So he has that sophomore slump and he's trash now ..

Is max Domi trash after his 9 goals ? Or dovork

Everyone hit the wall last year right ..

I would trade Sam for max right now [/img]

Yeah I will take Kane

A sophomore slump is not putting up 15 points

A sophomore slump is only scoring 15 goals when you scored 20 the year before.

That was a sophomore cave dive. Hell Matt Moulson only had one less goal than Duclair had total points...

I've only watched him the 4 times the Sabres have played them in the past two years, and I was at the game this year. Domi was awesome, I didn't notice Duclair much at all

Edit: Duclair may have even been hurt that game

An Ek thinks Matthews will rank higher than McDavid in 18 years.

Bold predictions, based on assumptions, mean little.

40 of those are going to be assists from Kane's goals in December

So I'm bored and my math sucks but here's what I did in the last 20 minutes.

Twelve players who scored nearly the same number of goals as Kane - six on either side (above, below) and their Average salaries:

Burns $8M
Pavelski 6M
JVR $5M
Drais $832K
EStaal $3.5M
Kane $6M
Tavares $6M
Kreider $4.6M
Marleau $6.25M
Turris $3.5M
Grabner $1.65M
Maroon $2M

If my math is right that suggests that the average salary of these 12 players is around $4.44M. Even if you throw out Burns and Draisaitl to eliminate anomalies, the average is $4.45. So if we're only going to analyze 28 goals, it looks like there is a way to get that kind of production cheaper. More specifically, only 5 of the 12 who produce at or around that rate have as big or larger salary as Kane.

I just wonder where the production is available in the next 12 months, and how lucky we have to be to find it.

- Der Kaiser

This deserves to be bumped. i suppose in the short term you'd be betting on a better blueline+better 5v5 play to add a few goals. get some of that scoring back that way.

If Jack has over 90 points (91 and up) the Sabres will make the playoffs and not as a wild card team

maybe. Kucherov and Scheifele had big years but their teams missed. Success of this team will be based on what the blueline does

Duclair will = Kane, IMO. And for a hell of a lot cheaper.

How many forwards who play 19 minutes a night can muster more than 15 assists in a season? Most of them.

His pros and cons make him an average 2nd line winger. Replaceable.

Sorry, it's just the truth

As soon as you trade Kane, you're looking for someone like Evander Kane. He's irreplaceable because there's no other NHL player exactly like him. Flaws and warts aside, he's good at hockey. I'm fine with trading him, but it better be for some damn good prospects. I'm totally fine waiting til the deadline too though, and if we're legitimately in the hunt, just keep him and let him walk or trade his negotiating rights if you can
