Thanks for keeping hockey relevant in late July Todd!
(BTW Tanner thinks the Leafs will be the best team in the league this year...)

Tanner thinks a lot of things, many of them completely wrong or misguided.
I have the Leafs as third in thier Division right now, though it wouldn't shock me to see them finish second. They've got a solid young core that is only going to get better.
As for our prospects, seeing how many of them are suiting up for this makes parting with those draft picks much easier swallow. Not that I had a hard time swallowing it in the first place, but still. |

Tanner knows how to get people rilled up. Its your fault if you take him seriously. Pretty sure he is laughing at how serious people take him and the more hate he gets the more he will indulge.

I would be surprised to see them overperform two years in a row, but stranger things have happened. They barely dealt with injuries at all last season.
Also, seven Sophmores and not one Sophmore slump? |

If Calgary can beat Anaheim in Anaheim this year, it'd obviously go a long way to those standings coming to fruition.
As long as 97 is playing for Edmonton, I think they're the favorites to win the division. |

He can't do it alone, be surprised if Talbot has the same type of season and they're betting on Broisant to back him up! There's no way they sweep us this year. If we had split last year we'd of finished tied with them. Suckera out to start, Russell's playing top 4, Looch is older and slower, Ebbs goals are gone, draisitle could get better provided he plays with Jesus. That would mean Flopkins is they're 2nd line centre, which isn't the best scenario.
Flames have a better defence and in my opinion a better top 9! Although mcDavid can swing the table just being himself. I see the battle of Alberta becoming relevant again! Which to me is good cause I hate everything Edmonton!
Bring it on oiler fans! Cue the comments! |

I'm a Flames fan, but don't get too ahead of yourself on our prospects.
Of Kylington Andersson Fox Valimaki, I would only expect 1 to make it permanently, and maybe 2 if we're lucky.
On the front end, I am honestly don't have confidence that any of our forwards at the moment will see regular NHL ice time, other than possibly Jankowski as a 3rd/4th liner.
Shinkaruk, Poirier, Klimchuk aren't doing as well in their Draft +years as NHL ready players usually are. Phillips Dube and Mang are good, but they have a lot to overcome if they even want to stay, and make an impact. No one else is worth talking about.
Goaltending looks good for now in Parsons and Gillies, but with goalies, counting your chickens before they hatch is never a good idea.
Keep in mind we will most likely only get weaker from this point on having lost our 2018 1st and 2 2nds. |

Haha weaker??? What about the young players that are developing in the NHL? What about someone like Lazar or Foo? Phillips?
As far as the D men are concerned I think those 4 are as good as any other teams top 4 D prospects across the league. Sure, maybe none of them will play, but right now it's pretty much as strong as it can be.

I'm not saying our NHL team sucks. I'm saying our prospects aren't as good as he's making them out to be. In fact, a large reason our farm system is so weak is because of the Tkachuk's and Bennett's and Monahan's.
We have a lot of "good" players, but I'm having a hard time imagining any of them turning into real NHL players. We'll start to really feel the effects of this in around 2020, 2021, 2022, where the only player in the pipeline over those 3 years with a shot at making it is Valimaki.

Haha dude....if the farm is weak because all of our best prospects are already in the NHL then IT'S A GOOD THING. 2022?!?!?! Haha....man, SO much is going to happen between now and then. |

considering the age and contracts of our top 6 and top 4 D rolling into 2020 will still be
(lets call the top 6 JG/Money/Tchachuk/Backland/Bennet/Ferland)
prospects coming into the NHL actually only need to hit the good mark, they'll have time to develop. Brodie and Backs floated in that area when they started.
Only Gio at that age will be stepping down in minutes, so thats a good crop of D that we could see stepping into a top 4 position

No idea why you had to preface that with you being a Flames fan. Couldn't disagree more on our D prospects. And you forgot Mattsson. |

Wow, those are some bold predictions! What were these based on btw?? Half the teams in the NHL would love to have those defenseman in their system. Treliving built his current defense so that they can marinade a bit longer. Some of the forwards you mentioned haven't even gone pro yet! Also, we gave up those draft picks because that's what pushed us into contenders. It's the same as you sometimes have to spend money to make money. |
