Those 30 + games where he let in 3 Gaa or 4gaa where was he ? - GERBE!!!75PTS
It was 30 games and 12 of them he had over .900 sv%. We didn't lose all 30 of those games either. Where was the rest of the team when he had 2 or less goals against and we still loss (about 15 games I think)?
A lot of his games with 3+ goals against came in stretches of 3 games in a row. Maybe the coach should have recognized this. |

Fun Fact: Biron and Miller have nearly identical career stats. Even Miller's Vezina season is mirrored by Biron's best season with the exception of .GAA and Biron played on a terrible team that year. Miller played on a President's Trophy team, and that's regardless of him. Yeah, we wouldn't have been with Lalime as our starter but you put half the back-ups in the league on Buffalo at that point and we were still going to be dominant. - BeadyEyedDouche
It really shows that you goalies these days are so close to each other in terms of stats that if you can find a starter that can play 55-60 games a season that puts up decent stats and have a solid back up you can win in this league if the TEAM (key point) around said goaltender is good.
The days of building from the net out are over. That is why Montreal is my pick of a team that made the post season last year to miss it this year. |

outside of Price i don't think there really is one nhl goalie that can carry a team left. Maybe Bob?
one may show themselves this year. |

Look on the last page so far I have years of 32, 29, 24 (when he was on fire) of games with 3 or more goals let up I stopped counting because every year is going to be around there
Yet he wants to complain about 30 from Lehner

because it was the only time the sabres were really good to him.. he probably just equates Ryan Miller to success without looking at the facts. was he a good goalie, yes. was he great, at times. was he elite, hellz no |

Been some talks about him, everything I've read has been positive. As MP mentions he had a great first game with a goal and assist. Second game was scoreless for him, but he still had some chances from what I hear. Haven't really been following the tourney, so can't report anything first hand, but when I've seen him brought up it's always positive. He's competitive, skilled and isn't looking out of place transitioning from high school hockey. |

Current Miller would have been worse
Past Miller would have been the same as Lehner last year
Each let in their own soft goals the Sabres might have won 2 more shootouts last year because that is something Miller is really good at but it's not like the Sabres could score during them either
Lehner got 1 goal in support for all of his losses.
But again the playoffs would not have happened at all. - Stripes77
You have to take into account that Miller played in a wide open system with tons of chances against.
I think Miller would have seen better numbers under Bylsma (not just raw sv%) |

Way different system.
I ran the numbers before from his prime.
He faced a lot more high danger chances than Lehner did |

right, thats why i ask what kind of influence he'll have and where. The title of his role is kinda vague - Sabresfan-365
It is a curious hire, he went back to college to complete his studies at Michigan and was apart of the coaching staff their. GMJB seems to be taking full advantage of the NCAA.
Miller was so mentally weak I never cared for him. I could never watch a game with full confidence. He would always let in a weak goal at a bad point in the game. No chance he would've influenced any games these past two seasons even in his prime.

Different systems.
More of those 1886 shots were good scoring chances, than the 1910 Lehner faced.
This year will determine if Lehner is our long term starter. |

i agree on this year being the tell all for Lehner.
If Phil plays a more open system we may see more of those high scoring chance types of shots (lets hope not a lot of break aways or odd man rushes). its going to be interesting because right now i don't feel like this team has a clear definition with the contrast between players like eichel/Kane and then ROR/reinhart |

In all honesty, like I have posted 100 times, unless he's a top 5 or bottom 5 goalie (which he is niether) than his overall effect on our W/L's is minimal.
If he has a repeat of this year, and maybe cleans up the high danger SV%, there is no reason he can't be the long term starter |
