I attended the development camp for the drills on Saturday and I would like to add Max Willman, Jacob Bryson, Vojtech Budik, Cliff Pu, to the list of players I thought looked good for different reasons during the drills.
Im not exactly thrilled with the Sabres' prospect pool. Its decent for sure, but definitely not one of the best in the league anymore. - Phineas
Part of the reason for that is the because Jack and Sam are already playing full time. Our prospect pool is ridiculously good. Middlestsdt, Nylander, Guhle, Asplund, Davidsson, Luukkonen all have potential to be stars, with Borgen having a the potential to be a top paring shut down guy ala Chris Tanev or Adam Larson. Then you add in guys like Baptiste, Bailey, Fasching, CJ Smith, Pu; all of those kids have potential to be top line/pairing players even though most likely, they will be very solid role players.
But we already got our stars in Eichel, Okposo, Kane, Reinhardt (yes I know that's up for debate at this point) Risto, and O'Reilly. Now if Middlestsdt, Nylander and Guhle all reach their potential, well we have enough elite players - as you can only pay so many of them cuz of the salary cap. We don't need anymore "elite" players like Jack. What we need are some of the second tier guys to step up this year. This prospect pool is loaded with talent! We could definitely use another dman or 2, but everywhere else is stacked; including Goal now with Ukka Luukkonen.

Reading some of the news coming out of Philly was an eye opener for me. A lot of people think Giroux is pretty much spent, or at least he's not a 1c anymore. Some are even suggesting he move to wing. Vorachek has been up and down and is in no way a sure thing
As for Simmonds, he's really good, i doubt they would ever move him - jcragcrumple
Last time Philly played Pittsburgh in the playoffs, back when Laviolette was their coach, Giroux had double-wrist surgery that off-season and I believe him when he said "Every time I lined up for a faceoff with Crosby, he slashed my wrists."
I thought his 93 point season was always going to be his high-point but he really fell off a cliff.

Oooooh you're setting my screen on fire with that hot take - jcragcrumple
I really think Washington will be mediocre at best this season and only then because of Holtby. Boston, they can still be a surprise. Kind of a wild card team.

Boston is going nowhere but down. We're better on paper for sure

Boston has a lot of good players and prospects in their system. They don't really have great ones, but they'll be a playoff caliber team again sooner rather than later.

If we're not better than Boston this year, something has gone wrong

Not that anything you're saying is way off base, but every team as a prospect the caliber of Will Borgen, so every team can say they have potential top pairing D men in their system.
Also, calling Kane, Risto and Reinhart "elite" is incredibly generous.
Eichel is elite, ROR is close to being great.
We have 1 elite player, and that's part of our overall issue. Our 2nd best player isnt good enough. Hopefully that could be Nylander or Middlestadt
