Dang, De Haan just got 1 year for $3.3. Dumo is looking overpaid every day. I like Dumo more, just not that much more. |

Ryan, how about your top 3 or 5 trade possibilities for 3C. Include the players from both teams being traded and a short description of why it makes sense for both teams.
Your top two trade targets of Bozak and E. Staal don't really make sense for either Toronto or Minnesota, IMO. |

I mean that deal is terrible for NYI. CDH is a UFA in 1 year now. Not sure I would use that as a comparable. |

I agree it's a bad deal for NYI, but it's still less money and less term for a comparable player to Dumo. Term is supposed to bring the AAV down, but in Dumo's case, it didn't. Oh well, I'm not going to lose sleep over the Dumo deal, but I do think the contracts of Pesce and De Haan highlight that he got overpaid. |

He definitely got overpaid. But term doesn't always bring AAV down. Especially when you are buying up a players prime UFA years. |

True, good point.
On a side note, can you imagine being an Islanders fan? Dreadful. I am very thankful to be a Pens fan with a front office who knows what they are doing. |

I agree with this to an extent. Third line wingers are much easier to find than top 4 dmen. Maatta is still very young and has upside where Hags will only decline. We would need a replacement in place if we did move Maatta.
I don't even like Maatta that much, but I would much rather trade Hornqvist. We are loaded at RW, he has one year left, he is aging and his game will only decline, and ZAR looks like his in-house replacement.
Don't get me wrong, I really like Hornqvist, but I think there are many factors leading to him being the best option to move (not to mention he probably has the highest trade value of the three). - T-Train
I'm probably in the minority that doesn't think the Pens would have a hard time replacing Maatta. I view what he brings has very replaceable. Right now Dumo/Letang and Cole/Schultz are capable of being a very good top-four. The Pens would just need an above average #5.
Now, the only thing I can't get on board with on what you said is making any moves on the "potential" of someone like ZAR or Sprong. It would be a grave error to move him and then neither of those guys pan out. |

If I had to argue any aspect of the Dumo deal it would be his term, which I'm fine with. You're going to be hard pressed to find many legit top-four, let alone a dman who's on your top-pair, for less than $4M. I'm not saying you can't, but they are VERY few and far between. |

Having a healthy Letang and healthy Schultz make both Dumo and Maatta relatively easy to replace imo. |

Probably because Modano only hit 40+ goals 1 time in his career and only 90+ points 2 times.
Bure hit 50+ goals 5 times and 90+ points 5 times. |

I actually think McDavid is a lot more like Kevin Lowe if Kevin Lowe was bigger, faster, better, more talented and a forward. |

The whole comment was speed of skating and stick handling. Modano and Bure both are probably top 5 all time in terms of skating and stick handling at high octane speed. But I bet he doesn't remind you of Crosby skating wise. |

Look we get it Modano was your favorite player but he is nowhere near the Bure, McDavid, Crosby, etc. realm. |

Except that all the pundits disagree with you as do most people that have actually seen Modano when he was in his prime. |

I did watch Modano in his prime but you putting him up there with those guys would be like me putting Fedorov up there. They are the next tier. If they were as good as those guys they both would have had more than 1 40+ goal season. |

Who cares about comparing McDavid? Can we get back to unrealistic trade proposals for a 3C? |

It has nothing to do with goal scoring or assists. Obviously Crosby will end up better in that regard. But no one will consider him to be one of the fastest players ever. This is only about top end speed and stick handling at said speed. Fedorov, Bure, Modano, Coffey, Orr, McDavid. With McDavid being on a whole new level that's never been seen... Some of it having to do with advancements in skate technology. |
