What the Ek are the Sabres thinking going into this season with those goalies both on 1 year contracts and a defense not improved enough to make either of them look any better than what we have already seen?!

Ek:
A very legit question asked by many….It is my theory that they aren’t in love with any of the goalies in their system and they are playing the long game here..2 years from now there is an awesome UFA goalie cup including Fleury…who is of course known well by the GM…I could see them at some point trading for Fleury..either after this season or during next season…once he could be extended..

Biron played pre lockout when no one scored goals.

Comparing raw numbers in different eras are bad comparisons.

It's like calling Derek Roy similar to Nick Backstrom because Roy had 80 points a few times

- sbroads24

that pre lockout team was brutal

nothing like hearing robie on the post game crying about goaltending when the team lost 4-1 night after night and biron makes 40 plus saves a game

I really lost a lot of respect for Mike during that season

It's really amazing how that 05-06 team came together after those few brutal years

Pre-Lockout when no one scored goals? Someone needs to get a hold of Sakic, Iginla, Jagr, Lemeuix, Kovalchuk, Bure, Hejduk, Nash, Heatley, Brett Hull, Glen Murray, Todd Betuzzi, Marion Hossa and the literally dozens of other guys who regularly scored 40+ goals before the lockout.

FFS, Marcus Naslund was pushing 50 goals before the first lockout of the 2000's.

He may be better suited at LW in my opinion. there is a need there. Not giving up on him quite yet but hes got to show some more flashes this year if he wants to stay.
- MCGUIZZY

If he rediscovers his North south game under Housely it bodes well. If seen so much of him looking lost and falling down the past two years

Because.... have you seen your depth chart? Sabres are gonna have a lot of youth on this roster.

Unless you plan on dressing Deslauriers for half the season again.

?? Girgs in all likelihood wont ever be on a line with jack...so what does it matter? Even if he was on a line with jack..he plays the same kind of uptempo style.

Oh my god, please, no, make it stop.

Makes me pine for the days of Adam Mair, Andrew Peters and Matt Freakin' Ellis.

So we're going to rush a prospect that's not even ready for the NHL and Destroy his confidence?

That's obviously an exaggeration.

But goals skyrocketed in 05-06 when Miller took over as full time starter.

Again, I dont think Miller is a HOF goalie, but he steadily was in the 8-12 range, with a Vezina year mixed in.

Ok, im done on Miller

I'm still hoping we make a trade for a winger that had a rough year and is on the trading block

It's not rushing if he can play and is your best option.

This. I never understood the whole "rushing a guy ruins his development" idea. He either has it or he doesn't and no amount of coddling will help that.

agreed

look at Mikko Rantanen
drafted 10th overall

fist year, 9 game taste in nhl and goes to ahl for the year

year 2, produces in nhl 39 points in 75 games

year 3, I expect him to be a 50-60 point player and much better in his own end, due to nhl coaching

Mr Softie.

I just got through reading some parts of that last thread - they all stepped out in front of a truck based on the content and stupidity that I was reading...

Sabres in general have been known for a while for giving up leads in the third period - lack of confidence, leadership and coaching.
