It would be so lazy of the Canucks to extend them. I really hope they struggle this year
- VANTEL

Lazy perhaps, but I dont think they have many options at this point. Sedin's love Vancouver and want to play here, cant think of many UFA's that will feel the same way at this point of the rebuild. Nor am I confident that Sutter/Gagner are fit to fill the 2C role sufficiently enough to make their young wingers develop well

For all the Sutter haters out there the quickest way to move him is by getting a second line center next year. Trade or UFA it will open up a lot of cap space sans Sedins Sutter and Gudbrandson. Then maybe we can afford Gaunce
- VANTEL

I hope all our guys do well.

JB will have trouble moving Sutter if he has a bad year. Would have to eat some salary.

but the other side of the coin is if he is playing well, people will be upset if he is traded. We should have traded Vrbata after his first season here.

everyone should be available for trade except Gaunce.

You have Gagner now for three years . You can move Sutter and have 18.5 mil to replace two top line players . I would be offering two BC boys Turris and Kane both 6 year deals

I don't have a problem with either until something better comes along.

Sutter is good in the circle and okay everywhere else. just a bit overpaid.

LE has a lot to prove. maybe he has to be put in the right situation to succeed? I'd rather LE on the pp with the net front presence than Sutter.

I'm not sure who I want to see gone as much as the elements I want to see added to the lineup, offense and scoring (oops same thing, I forgot the grit).

neither will live up to the UFA contracts they sign, this team should only be giving out long term deals to homegrown not UFA's. Loui is example A, Sutter is example B

Greetings everyone. Firstly, I need to thank Makita for stepping up and trying to keep things organized and on topic in these forums for the years he was here. He did so because he cared about this place and valued the discourse with fellow hockey fans-Canucks and all others.

We all agree Carol is a gem. She writes everyday, is a professional, and one of our top writers here.

Since we began 13 years ago, it has always been the threads that keep the site vibrant. It has always been fascinating to me that anonymous people can communicate online with each other, nay develop real relationships--good, bad or indifferent.

I'm sorry there is so much negativity on these threads right now. We are here to enjoy and discuss hockey, but human nature does take over eventually. I have a pretty good grasp on what is occurring. There will be a new Mod to help here. In the meantime it will be me.

now (or the next 3 years quite frankly) is not the time to be signing high priced UFAs. move out the vets or allow the deals to expire and rebuild slowly.

once you figure out where the team's own budding players/prospects fit in, then you can decide where best to spend the available cap dollars. this will take minimum 2 seasons.

just because the cap space is there does not mean you should spend it.

(also, cap space for taking advantage of cap strapped teams blah blah blah).

Dragon, I have not picked fight with you for no reason in the past, so I hope you don't take this the wrong way. But you definitely, 100% have multiple times come off as misogynistic when talking about women in the past. Between that and constantly referring to women in order to insult posters (ie female dog, sally, whatever). I personally have no beef with you, but maybe just don't talk about women and stick to hockey?

Sutter has looked 'real good' at the camps here. Skating is solid and a great release on the snapshot. But to me he even looks skinnier than last year...a bit more lean. Not sure if this is a good thing as of yet but he has looked decent out there.

The reason I think next year is a keen year to buy is because of ELCs . I agree move out vets including Eriksson if you can find a sucker , I mean taker

I think Gagner and Del Zotto are smart signings . If we could get Turris Kane short term would be ideal but I think teams will offer long term

I would like to see him without the twins on the team . Maybe he can be a second line center. Then he isn't overpaid

He's a bit player, at the NHL level he doesn't provide anything special in terms of offense, he's a product of other players...generally. But whatever, the team is in the early stages of rebuilding, they've got five years to go before they're gonna be good again.

he's a decent complementary piece on the right team. on this weak team, his deficiencies are magnified (like with all the canucks). his contract also gives him an "overvalued" impression.

where the team is, i don't think it really matters. he's a utility piece (glass half full) or a tweener who can't solidify a role (glass half empty.) in this way, he's a good stop gap until his role is better handled by a younger player.

still though, frustrating player to watch.
